Important Gameplay Notes:
Shells seem to be based on 00 Buckshot containing 10 pellets. The damage of individual pellets was 10.1, and is now 6.7. With the increased range and reduced spread, you're still getting a decent buff to your shotgun shells because you'll be able to land all pellets on a single target at a greater distance allowing for a 35 meter shot of 67 damage using the base stats. To put that in perspective, a Tier 3 Weapon, the Sniper Rifle does a base damage of 53. I attempted a balanced reduction to damage to compensate for the tighter spread and increased range, but I wouldn't consider this mod Balanced™ because I haven't tested it enough, and without rigorous testing I won't know. So, let me know what you think if you find things to be functionally unsound.
Realism Notes:
Notice I've used the word "Authentic" and not "Realistic" to describe this mod. That's because it's not realistic.
Consider spread at 35 meters (38.28 yards), the new maximum range I've defined (Googling says approximately 30 to 40 yards would be the max effective range). The general rule for shotgun spread is an increases by about 1 inch (2.54 cm) per yard (0.91 meters) of distance from the muzzle. That's about 0.97 meter spread at 35 meters distance. If my math is correct, the spread angle for 00 Buckshot at 35 meters, corresponding to a spread diameter of 0.97 meters (or 3.18 feet), is approximately 1.59 degrees. I've reduced the spread to 3.0 degrees, and it's pretty clean and tight.
Still, I've fired a Mossberg 500 shotgun with 00 Buckshot, and I can tell you for a man-size target, it's not easy to land all the pellets at 25 yards. I don't know how the spread in-game degrees and meters all compare to real ones, but 3.0 seemed like a nice compromise and so I decreased the damage by the same amount but made a major increase to the range and the damage drop-off distance, because I'm annoyed by how video games developers make shotguns so poor at any range beyond a sneeze.
