MONA ALTA

Centuries ago, a small and unknown order of monks came to Skyrim, seeking for the secrets of the north.

They built a monastery in the mountains surrounding Lake Ilinalta, where they could gather books, stories and artifacts to study, as knowledge was for them the only path to wisdom. Protected by the « path of faith », the building sheltered their research for years. But they never made it through the harsh heart of the northmen. The down-to-earth inhabitants of the land stayed mistrustful, afraid of those strange « priests » who « walked on the surface of the air » : from the top of the stone stairs that goes through the rocks to the building hanging on the cliff, the « path of faith », indeed, stays invisible to those who don't take it. Rejected by the villagers, unable to communicate, the monks finally left, and never came back. For hundreds of years, the building stayed empty, and the « Monastery of Ilinalta » slowly became the « Mona Ilinalta », then Mona Alta.

During the year 127 of the Fourth Era,Inel Tubin, an imperial mearchant that made considerable wealth by trading rare products from all over Tamriel, saw the building from the bank of the lake on his way to Whiterun. He found in this calm and pure environment of the mountain and the lake the perfect place to be for his sick and beloved wife. He dealed with the Jarl of Falkreath and finally acquired Mona Alta. Keeping some of the old decorations, floors and walls, making new ones, he furnished the house with some of his wife's favorite furnitures, paintings and ornaments, taken from all the different places he possessed in Cyrodiil, High Rock, Hammerfell, Morrowind and Valenwood. A very small part of their amazing collection of items, but still sufficient
to remind his dear Mira some of their most precious moments. Mona Alta became a blend of cultures, ages and styles. When everything was finally done,Inel had the scaffoldings removed, and to everyone's surprise, walked the « Path of faith »... the workers and craftmen, incredulous, witnessed the man marching on the air as if it was solid ground, a confident smile on his face (and an old book, found in the house, in his hand). « For the path is revealed only to those faithfull enough to take it ! » he shouted.

On the first day of Sun's Height, year 128 of the Fourth Era, Mira Tubin arrived in the Falkreath Hold in Skyrim along with his husband and their four devoted servants. At the top of the stone stairs, she took a minute to take her breath and admire the wonderful view, the quiet lake to the south, and the
plains of the Whiterun Hold to the north. « You were right, my love, she said to Inel, already waiting on the other side, this is the perfect place to be ». Trustful to her husband, she took a step forward... and fell from the cliff.

A desperate cry tore the sky apart, echoing on the cold rocks of the mountains, covering the quiet waters of the lake : on the edge of his house, Inel was looking at the lifeless body of his wife, dozens of meters down. The servants entreated him, but it was useless... he jumped into the void, and rejoigned Mira.

50 years passed before the new Jarl of Falkreath claimed back the property of Mona Alta. 50 years of silence
and oblivion. Since then it is a domain to acquire, for those who are
wealthy... and faithfull enough.
