About this mod
This mod add a new enchantable version of the Ebony Mail with no armor rating and no enchantments into the game. It is designed to be used by pure mages or alteration mage characters who take advantage of the enchantment school, armour spells and the mage armour perks.
- Permissions and credits
Mage characters in Skyrim have very little choice about which robes to wear. Once you get the Archmage's robes you're bound to use them since there is no better alternative in the game, stats wise. For my new mage playthrough i decided to wear something different and unique. This mod is a "look" mod and a mage-friendly mod, you can now enchant this version of the Ebony Mail with any enchantment from vanilla or mods (even use the Archmage's Robes enchantment on it, read compatibility section about this) and even take advantage of the armour spells and mage armour perks since the artifact is now listed as clothing.
Features
- This mod doesn't modify in any way the vanilla Ebony Mail, it just adds a new version of it into the game.
- This mod does not substitute the Boethia's Calling quest reward. You will still be rewarded with the vanilla Ebony Mail or with a version from a mod that changes that, if you use such a mod.
- Removed the heavy armour rating.
- Removed the vanilla enchantment and the script associated with it.
- The Ebony Mail of the Mage can be enchanted at any enchantment table.
- The vanilla visual effect you gain when you crouch is still present with this item.
- The Ebony Mail of the Mage can't be crafted, bought from merchants, be worn by other NPCs, looted or be obtained as the quest reward (see point 1 and 2). So it's still a Daedric Artifact: unique..just in a "mage-friendly" version.
Compatibility
- Compatible with any perks overhaul mod that modify the Mage Armour perk from the alteration school.
- Compatible with any mod that modify the Boethia's calling quest, the vanilla Ebony Mail mesh or enchantment or the Ebony Cuirass.
- Compatible with Better Archmage's Robes - SSE by UltimateZero. So you can disenchant the Archmage's Robes given by that mod and apply the same enchantment on this item. NB: The magnitude of the enchantment is not affected by your Enchanting level so the effect will be identical. (This is not a feature of my mod).
- Obviously the perk Well Fitted from the Heavy Armour skill tree won't work if you equip The Ebony Mail of the Mage since it doesn't have an armour rating. Just use the normal Ebony Mail if you need that bonus.
Installation
NB: I haven't placed the item somewhere for you to pick up because the Ebony Mail is still supposed to be a Daedric Artifact not loot, so you should add it to your inventory through console commands. Ideally do the quest and use this version instead for the sake of lore :) Follow these steps if you're not familiar with console commands.
- Download and install the mod with Nexus Mod Manager.
- Launch your saved game, open the console and type help "ebony mail" (with quotation marks)
- You'll see an item called "Mage's Ebony Mail" check its ID and type in console player.additem ID 1. 1 if you want just one Mage Ebony Mail.
- Done.
