Happy modding!

Since I don't find myself playing Special Edition at all and just playing the original Skyrim I have decided to abandon this as it really isn't worth spending my time supporting this. I may decide to pick up work on this again at a later time, but for the time being don't expect any support.

This requires the installation of SSE Plugin Loader in order to work. Anyone using a version older than 1.6 will need to make sure they install this just as if a new user is installing it.

What Is This?

This is a variation of my mod Better Free Camera from the original Skyrim which maps many useful console commands to simple hotkeys. Since SKSE and SkyUI are not available for Skyrim Special Edition yet this is a little bit limited and will lack some functionality in addition to requiring SSE Plugin Loader in order to work. When SKSE and SkyUI are eventually ready I might decide to port over Better Free Camera, but this should at least make taking screenshots and recording video a little bit easier in the meantime.

Version 1.6 currently works only with version 1.4.2.0 of Skyrim Special Edition. If Bethesda makes any future updates it will take some time to figure out any changes they made so please be patient for when I upload an new version of this mod after a new version of Skyrim Special Edition has been released. I am only going to make updates for new general releases of Skyrim Special Edition and not beta releases since it makes it easier to deal with any changes Bethesda has made. If you experience any trouble using this there should be a log file named LittleBetterFreeCamera.log that can be used to try and diagnose what is going on.

How To Use

The hotkeys can be changed by modifying LittleBetterFreeCamera.ini in a text editor, but for people who want to start using this immediately without changing any settings first these are the default keys:

  • Toggle Free Camera - NUMPAD 0
  • Toggle Free Camera Freeze Time - NUMPAD 1
  • Increase Free Camera Speed - NUMPAD 3
  • Decrease Free Camera Speed - NUMPAD 2
  • Toggle HUD - NUMPAD .
  • Increase Time Multiplier - NUMPAD 5
  • Decrease Time Multiplier - NUMPAD 4
  • Reset Time Multiplier - NUMPAD 6
  • Increase FOV - NUMPAD 7
  • Decrease FOV - NUMPAD 8
  • Reset FOV - NUMPAD 9
  • Toggle Animcam - NUMPAD /
  • Take Screenshot - NUMPAD +

Known Issues

Some of these issues are things I had resolved in Better Free Camera but due to the lack of SKSE for Skyrim Special Edition it will take me a while to figure out how to fix if they are even possible to fix at all.

  • Screenshots only work in windowed mode. Taking screenshots in full screen DirectX games is a little bit tricky and I am not sure I will have the time to make it work, but you can still run the game in a "windowed" full screen mode to get around this.
  • Toggling free camera mode while in first person can be somewhat buggy and occasionally move the camera to another location. Toggling free camera mode in third person mode works fine though.
  • The left/right mouse buttons won't be able to control vertical movement in free camera mode the same way it would if you had entered "tfc" in the console to enter free camera mode.
  • Entering and exiting free camera mode in some situations such as when in a dialogue with an NPC or mining ore can cause your character to get stuck. Be mindful of when you enter and exit free camera mode.
  • The time multiplier will be reset to 1.0 after using a bow. Skyrim does this because it slows down time for the Steady Hand perk and then sets it back to normal. This happens even if your character does not have the Steady Hand perk.

Permission

You can feel free to make translations, upload this to other sites, and generally share this with anyone you like without asking for permission so long as you don't try and make any money from this mod. I only ask that you make sure to give me credit for this work.
