Unofficial Creation Club Updates - Dwarven Armored Mudcrab

Here we are again! Doing exactly the same thing we did back in October! It would appear the folk at Bethesda don't agree with my feeling that hitting the player with ten different quests on starting a new character is a terrible idea. I'm therefore fixing it again for the new December Creation Club content, along with any other bugfixes and improvements I deem necessary along the way. 

With this plugin installed, "My Pet Mudcrab" will no longer start as soon as you load up the game. Instead, when you have completed "Nimhe, the Poisoned One" for Calcelmo and thereby earned his trust, a "Notice of Sale" will be sent to you via courier. Reading it will start the quest. After that, everything will continue as normal. Additionally, the mudcrab has now been made Actually Useful. He can attack and be attacked (he's essential so he won't die). Just please bear in mind that he is a mudcrab, so won't stand much of a chance against Alduin. Also, I've increased his carry weight from 20 to 150, so he can hold more than a heavy helmet for you.

I'll update this mod as and when I find further issues and/or areas to improve in the Dwarven Armored Mudcrab file. If you spot anything you'd like me to fix or have any suggestions, please let me know in the comments and bug report section!

Please note that this will only work if you load up a save that hasn't been loaded with "Dwarven Armored Mudcrab" installed. If you have - even if you never got through Helgen - the courier will still appear straight away regardless of whether or not you've met Calcelmo. The only way to ensure the courier only arrives after you have defeated Nimhe is to install this patch on a save that hasn't seen "Dwarven Armored Mudcrab" before!

Have all of the December Creation Club content? I'll release an All-In-One Patch for the December content as soon as I'm relatively confident that I've nailed down all of the bugs in the individual files.

I am not the original author of the Creation Club file that this patch depends upon. This patch is not supported by the original author(s), in any way, shape or form, and is an independent mod with its own responsibilities and faults.

Installation

  • Make sure you have Dwarven Armored Mudcrab downloaded and installed from the Creation Club.
  • Download and install the patch, preferably using NMM or MO.  If you want to do it manually, it should be as simple as dragging and dropping the .esp and script files into your "data" folder.
  • Enjoy!

Uninstallation

  • Uninstall the patch using your mod manager, or delete the .esp and script files from your "data" folder.  This should safely revert any of my changes back to vanilla.  However, as a rule, uninstallation of mods mid-play-through is not supported by Skyrim, and is a practice that should be viewed with considerable caution.
