Nexus Mod Manager new version, introductory video and a note on site blips

  • Comment
Another apology to make first guys. We hit a bit of a rough patch for an hour or so this evening with the Skyrim server. Every day we're hitting new traffic highs (525,000 unique visitors and 4 million page views today!) which means we're having to constantly adapt to the demands placed on the servers, continually optimising queries and config files and goodness knows what else. Thankfully we found the cause of today's issue relatively quickly and the server has been running sweet and sound since then. So hopefully we're good until tomorrow when another ridiculous amount of people come in search of Skyrim mods! I'm only getting about 3 hours sleep a night at the moment, so I'm going to need to take a holiday when this is all over!

On to happier news and Kaburke has just informed me he's put up version 0.12.6 of the Nexus Mod Manager which will contain more fixes and tweaks for users of the software.

And something really cool, Nexus user Gopher has added a really great introductory video to YouTube that brilliantly explains what NMM is, what it does, how it works and why you should be using it. It's brilliantly done and I'd recommend it if you're new to the modding scene here, don't understand why you'd need NMM or are just completely clueless! Thanks Gopher.

Hey, has anyone had problems downloading the NMM? Im new to Skyrimnexus- to download it and first it said "some files me harm your computer. Keep or discard?" then when i proceeded to Run the software it said the file was corrupted and to re-download. ive done that 3 times and it is always the same. even running as Admin wont work, can someone help?

Could you make it so that if I download a mod, I can see which folder it goes into? I'm getting annoyed at scouring through my 30-40 mod folders for a single mod, for around 3 minutes a time..

I'm having issues. Whenever I try to make a mod active, it says:
    "A problem occurred during install:
    Value cannot be null.
    Parameter name: path1
    The mod was not installed."
What can I do to fix this?

I am having issues using this with fallout 3. I want to add a mod to the package manager from folder. However it only lets me add files or url only?

So create a ZIP file with the files in the folder, then point NMM at the ZIP file.

I don't see any reason to use NMM (at least, in its current state) since it lacks many fundamental features of the mod manager:
    - the ability to see the contents of the mod you are going to install (without this you can't really call this program a mod manager)
    - the ability to check if the mod conflicts with other mods, to see which mods overwrite which files of the other mods
    - the ability to see which files of the mods are missing or modified
    - the ability to reorder the mods, so you can change the order of file rewriting in case of conflicts, without completely reinstalling mods
    - esp merging

It lets you manage load order via the green up/down arrows on the left side of the Plugins tab. Also, I would recommend BOSS as a companion to this.

Also, they're allowing anyone to file bug reports in the beta test forum, so people should take advantage of that to help make it better.
