Kinect Support Coming to Skyrim

  • Comment
Earlier today, the Bethesda Blog announced that a FREE update to Skyrim on Xbox 360 will give support for Kinect! It is supposed to be released this month, and will feature more than 200 Voice Commands, including Dragon Shouts!

So, now we can cross out another feature on the list from the Game Jam. ;)

In addition to Dragon Shouts, Kinect offers voice commands for Hotkey Equipping, Follower Commands, all Menus (Items, Magic, Map, Barter, Container, Favorites, and Skills) and even saving and loading! It also adds new functionality, like special map functions, additional hotkey options, and the ability to sort inventory items by name, weight, and value. The entire list will be revealed later on.

Preview:

PC Users
ThuuMic provides voice commands for all Dragon Shouts, follower commands and some special powers. (Requires ScriptDragon!)

On a side note
BGS are working on the first set of add-ons for Skyrim that will be released exclusively for the Xbox 360, then after one month, it will be available for both the PC and the PS3 as well. This additional content will add new quests, locations, features, and much more to Skyrim!

@yhwhwarrior: The key part of the agreement is the part in bold, underline and size 3: You should not expect ANY LEVEL OF PRIVACY concerning your use of the live communication. <img class=">

Why is this such a key part? Oh, because they can only get info about what you are doing when you are actually USING the live communication, and when do you use it? Well, when gaming or chatting with friends. And what is it that you talk about that is so dangerous that Microsoft knows about? Unless you are a pirate, a murderer or some other kind of criminal, you have nothing to fear, at all.

privacy is such an over-used term, and when it all comes to it, no one really cares - it's just stupid principles. /rant

I find it extremely disturbing to see a mod talk about privacy this way. This people is why you never ever ever ever submit any more personal information then absolutely necessary to ANY web sit. Because your privacy is just stupid principles. I like my privacy and I'm reasonably sure that I'm not a murderer or a child rapist or what ever.

Its a real good thing I never bothered to buy an xbox considering I have all my game systems set up in my bedroom. I find the idea of Microsoft watching me sleep (amongst other things) more then a little creepy.

It is not that all privacy-related things are stupid principles, but I find this case to be that. If Microsoft were watching everyone sleep, they would have to hire millions of people to monitor it, and then millions to monitor those guys, on and on. I might have said it a bit bad in the last post. What I meant is that privacy is an over-used term, and the privacy-related stuff discussed in this thread (Kinect camera...) are stupid principles. Of course, this is my opinion of it, and the reason that is my opinion, is because of what I said before about watching you sleep, and because that as long as you have nothing to hide (illegal stuff), no one is really interested in gathering information about you. As I said, this is my opinion, so, therefore I'll leave it at that. <img class=">
(Also note that while this is my opinion, I do not utilize this opinion when moderating. Only for myself, and not when dealing with private information about others.)

Thuumic mod is awesome!!! If you have not checked it out it is a must! Adds a whole new level of immersion. Plus gives players a reason to actually use the shouts now. I have no idea why it isn't in the top 10 mods on the Nexus.

edit: Oh, and thanx to all the fanboys out there, who cant stand a normal criticism of a game or company. ^^ Youre the reason for the loss of quality in the game/movie/whateverscene. Your downvoting keeps ppl reading this post. :-)

It didn't stop me from reading or clicking the links, thanks for the heads up on ME3.

Bethesda have lost me as a 'punter' for their future games through the 'too controlling' link with 'steam' and the sale of an unfinished game, and hanging out tasty treats in the form of voice commands etc will not lure me back into playing Skyrim, the latest batch of patches for this-that and the other have forced updates from Nvidia which turn off my monitor every time Skyrim/Oblivion is up and running for more than a few seconds, to be honest I'm a bit peeved with the amount of jiggery-pokery I've had to do to get it even running at all, only then to be disappointed by the content, yes I kept picking it up again hoping it would be better this time but...! and the more I played it the more it became clear to me the though the game held a 15yrs (UK) ticket the market aim was firmly below that.

@myounage for a business student you sure dont know much about video game business. if paying for exclusively is highly unethical then games like uncharted and halo are the most unethical thing ever because they're paid to remain on only one console. i dont get how you think this is somehow think this a crime exclusively has been in video games since the first console and computer games.

@DemonicUprise, this is an update not a DLC no one is pay for it. the exclusively for the Xbox 360 for the first two DLC is only for the DLC not update.

As a business student, I find this whole "bribe Beth, get exclusivity for a month" and all similar situations highly unethical. I'm surprised regulators aren't all over it, or that nobody's tried.

I likely won't be buying any of Skyrim's DLC as a matter of principle, just like I haven't bought any content that followed similar schemes.

    >exclusively for the Xbox 360
    >after one month, it will be available for both the PC and the PS3

They might be the only ones who'll have to PAY for this update then.

Some might say that our principles are what hold us above the level of animals in how much we prey upon each other.
