Skyrim

Wasteland 2 on Kickstarter

  • Comment
A couple of days ago, you might have seen here on the news that the original Fallout was free for a limited time on GOG. In that article, I stated that the first Fallout was the game that started it all-- when in actuality the game that the Fallout series can first be traced back to was called "Wasteland."
Wasteland was created by founder of Interplay Brian Fargo, who is also known for games like Baldur's Gate, The Bard's Tale, and yes, the original Fallout. Wasteland was published in 1988 and has enjoyed much success throughout the years, but plans for a sequel ultimately fell through the cracks when Fargo resigned his position at Interplay and founded his new company, inXile Entertainment.
That is, until now.

Recently, Brian Fargo made a comeback when he began his Kickstarter campaign to raise money for a sequel to Wasteland. Since the beginning of the project, the people over at inXile Entertainment have raised over 2 million USD, well over their original goal of $900,000. By reaching this goal, it means that Wasteland 2 is definitely in the foreseeable future. I highly encourage all of you to help fund this project, especially if you enjoyed the original Wasteland. $15 gets you a copy of the game on release date as well as a special ingame perk, and the incentives go up from there.

So if you want to see a sequel to the game that really started it all, head on over to Kickstarter and pledge a bit of money to help the project. There are 9 days left, so act quickly if you're interested.

...

The original Wasteland is hard to find and play on modern PCs, but I managed to get an old copy that I found at a garage sale working... I encourage you to try it out for yourself!

They said that they were going to release a mod development kit from the start, they just said that with more money, they could make it more user friendly (they actually said something like Not like Little Big Planet editor but something usable lol ) Its on one of the firsts vids they released and probably around the FAQ too.

I had no clue there was a potential for a mod kit, but I heard that yesterday as well. Definitely excited to hear that and made my contribution feel even better (not to mention the awesome changes they made to my 30 dollar reward, I thought it was great already), I'd love to see a Wasteland 2 Nexus!

The Kickstarter is finished and they made it to 3 million so we will get mod tools. You might as well get ready to make a Wasteland 2 Nexus.

So as a broke programmer unable to find a job due to the shitty economy here, what does it take to get funding for a game?
    I am open for suggestions.

The more money they get now, the bigger the game will be. And the game will probably cost more than $15 on release. So if you have any interest in this kind of game, you definitely want to pledge now instead of buying it on release.

    5 days to go.

I'm a big fan of Kickstarter, and backed Wasteland 2 on day 2. It really deserves the chance to be as big as possible. Please go back it, even a couple bucks would help them. For $50 you get a physical copy of the game when it gets released. You get a digital-download for $15 I think, which is a freakin steal.

Anyway, not affiliated with them, just hoping it can be a huge game, which means it needs as much money as it can earn.

Yea....I mentioned the Wasteland thing in the Fallout 1 thread. However, I didn't know there was a Kickstarter going for it. That's awesome. I have pledged.
