THE BLACK SWORD HAS BEEN FOLDED INTO ARTIFACTS OF ULTIMA AS OF THE 2.0 UPDATE, DEPRECIATING THIS MOD. AS SUCH IT WILL NO LONGER RECEIVE UPDATES BUT WILL REMAIN AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD.

Known alternatively as the Shade Blade and the Blackrock Sword, the Black Sword was an artifact of great power forged from the indestructible substance known as blackrock. Forged on the Isle of Fire by the Avatar, and wielded thereafter, the artifact was lost after the Avatar's adventures on Serpent Isle came to an end.

While that Black Sword has long been lost, nothing's stopping you now from making a new one.

Thanks to Brodual for making a mod spotlight on the sword! I wasn't quite expecting someone to spotlight it at all, so this is a pleasant surprise.

This mod not only adds the Black Sword, and the ability to make it, it adds blackrock as well to forge it from. Starting at level 18, you can find it rarely on Falmer and in Falmer chests, uncommonly on Dwarven Spiders and Dwarven Centurions, and most commonly in Dwarven boss chests (testing shows that, out of 15 chests, 3-4 or so will have Blackrock. With Centurions and Spiders, typically 1-2 out of 15 will have it) You also have a small chance of getting Blackrock out of any ore vein. If you find enough, at least 5, you can forge an unenchanted Black Sword at the Skyforge. This version is slow and heavy, owing to blackrock being, well, rock, and not really the best material for a weapon. But, if you get yourself a couple of filled black soul gems, you can balance the blade into the fully powered Black Sword.

With the full sword, you get the Ring of Fire ability, which can only be used once a day, but when used you're surrounded by a raging inferno. On top of that, the Black Sword also can soul trap, and serves as a reusable soul gem capable of taking black souls. The sword will also completely refill your magicka while draining the life force of your opponent. Have a tough opponent? No worries, the sword could instantly kill them with a single strike, if it feels like it.

With 1.1 you can now make a 1 handed version of the Black Sword. It's a bit faster than the 2-handed one (of course) but does a bit less damage. Still has all the same effects as its two-handed sibling, of course.

Making the sword requires the Ebony smithing perk, the full sword requires both that and the Arcane Blacksmith perk. Plus there's the need for 5 pieces of blackrock in order to make the thing to begin with. Since the Black Sword is quite powerful these restrictions are in place so you can't get it at lower levels, since it'd just make the game like eating a can of spam.

As of 1.4 the sword is classified as Ebony so it can be fully temperable; as such it can now be found in the Ebony section when at the Skyforge.

::Known Issues::

You can drop the Black Sword soul gem. Sure, that doesn't sound like a bug, but what it means is you could, hypothetically, get a crumpetload of duplicate Black Sword soul gems. I tried to fix this for 1.4, but making a quest item that can be added and removed from your inventory I found to be a pain in the crumpet, so...yay?

~Compatibiliters~

Compatibility wise, the mod should be compatible with a lot, since it doesn't rely on a DLC nor does it modify anything weird that would butt heads with other mods.

The armor my character is wearing in the old screenshots is the Sententia armor from the TERA armor set. I used the CBBE version which can be claimed here:

Check out my other mods! They're good with salt and a sprig of parsley.
