About this mod

Two angry, brawling drunks are trying to beat the snot out of each other in a tavern. Just another night in Skyrim. Or not, since there ARE no angry, brawling drunks in Skyrim bars. Until now.

*******************************************************************************

THIS MOD IS A NEXUS EXCLUSIVE.
PLEASE respect my wishes and do NOT post it anywhere else.

Please note that I made this for my game.  I've played it a fair bit, and so have the beta testers, but it's not what I would consider exhaustively tested.  If you find a bug, let me know.  I'll try to fix it, and I'll consider any suggestions in the spirit in which they were given.

In other words, I made this mod for me, and am making it available to you.  Be constructive, bad manners will not get you very far.  If you don't like this mod, revert to your hard save and move on.

THIS MOD IS FREE.  If you paid for it, you got screwed.

PLEASE NOTE:  Permissions are open.  I would appreciate being told if you use
my mods in your own, but it's not required.  I do ask that you don't use
it in paid mods.  You are free to include this in a modpack.  However, I
won't be able to support any problems you may find if you use it as
part of a modpack because I'll have no way of knowing if anything has
been changed.

REQUIREMENTS:
*********************

SKYRIM.ESM
UPDATE.ESM

*********************
HOW IT WORKS:
*********************

When the player enters a tavern (vanilla or mod-added) that has the right conditions, two NPCs will spawn and start wandering around.  If they get too close to each other, they'll get into a fist fight.  When one enters bleedout, the fight will stop and the NPCs will wander around a bit more.  After a while, if they get close to each other again, they'll fight again.  And again.  And again.  (Hey, they're rowdy drunks, that's what they're supposed to do.)

*********************
THE FINE PRINT:
*********************

- Conditions required for the brawlers to spawn: The location MUST have the LocTypeInn keyword and an innkeeper in the JobInnkeeperFaction.

FOR THE ORIGINAL VERSION:

- There is a two game-hour cooldown on new brawlers spawning.  So, if you leave a tavern and re-enter it or enter another tavern within two game hours, you should not get more brawlers spawning.  (Under default Skyrim settings, two hours is about six minutes in real-world time.  Or you can WAIT two hours.  Doesn't matter which you do so long as the game time advances by two hours.)

For the BIGGER BRAWLS version:

- You must ENTER the tavern between 5 PM and 3 AM to have the brawlers spawn.  If you enter before 5 PM and hang around, the brawlers WILL NOT spawn at 5 PM.  You'll have to step outside after 5 PM, then go back in.

- For the extra brawlers, there's some randomness as to how many will fight when their AI kicks in.  There will always be at least two brawlers fighting when they're in "fight" mode.

- There is a one game-hour cooldown on new brawlers spawning after you leave a tavern.  So, if you leave a tavern and re-enter it or enter another tavern within one game hour, you should not get more brawlers spawning.  Under default Skyrim settings, one hour is about three minutes in real-world time.  Or you can WAIT one hour.  Doesn't matter which you do so long as the game time advances by one hour.  Think of it as the break between rounds.

IN BOTH VERSIONS:

- There are several vanilla taverns that do NOT have the LocTypeInn keyword: The Drunken Huntsman, The Ragged Flagon and The Nightgate Inn.  These taverns will not have brawlers unless their keyword information is altered by another mod.

- The brawlers are protected.  This keeps them from accidentally killing each other and turning the Loredas night bar fight into a wake.

As there are MANY mods out there that add taverns, and I don't have a lot of time to devote to modding, I will NOT be making patches.  However,
there are three ways you can turn off brawls in taverns if there are cases where you don't want them.  One method is to talk to the
innkeeper, another is to use the console, the third method is to use TESVEdit.  The first two are described in the COMPATIBILITY/TROUBLESHOOTING section.  The method using TESVEdit is fully described in the README.

*******************
INSTALLATION:
*******************

1) MAKE A HARD SAVE.  Put it someplace safe so you can revert to it if you decide to uninstall the mod.

2) Install the MAIN version using the mod manager of your choice.  It should be fine to install this mod at any point in your game as long as you've never had this mod in your game before.

3) Walk into a compatible tavern and watch the fists fly.

TO INSTALL THE EVENING-ONLY BRAWLING VERSION, follow steps 1 - 2 above to install the MAIN file, then install the alternate ESP.  If you use a mod manager, it will ask you if you want to overwrite the original esp, say "YES".  If you install manually, just unzip and drop the contents into your DATA folder; overwrite the original ESP if asked.  THEN go to step 3.

***************************
CHANGING VERSIONS:
***************************

Ideally, make a hard save on a game that's never seen either version of the mod before.  Install and test one version, revert to your hard save and install and then test the other version.  Then choose the one you want.

Not ideally, if you have one of the two versions installed, follow the UNINSTALLATION procedure described below.  It should leave you with a so-called "clean save", but I can't guarantee that.

**********************
UNINSTALLATION:
**********************

NOT RECOMMENDED UNLESS YOU REVERT TO THE HARD SAVE YOU MADE BEFORE INSTALLING THIS MOD.  REALLY.  YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.  If you're just testing this mod out, I suggest using a test game or a save you don't care about.  That way, if you don't like it or it ends up not being compatible with your mod load, you can get rid of it without damaging your game that you've got 5000 hours into.

But, if you insist on uninstalling....

1) Go into an interior cell that is NOT A TAVERN.  Really.  NOT. A. TAVERN.

2) Make a hard save.

3) Close the game to desktop and remove the mod from your game.

4) Reload Skyrim and the hard save you just made in step 2.  Your game may complain that this mod is missing, depending on how you have things configured.  That's fine.  Ignore it and load the game anyway.

5) Wait a few seconds for the game engine to settle, then MAKE ANOTHER HARD SAVE.

6) Run the save you made in step 6 through a save game script cleaner, just to be safe.

7) Continue with your game using the cleaned save you made in step 7.

*** I WILL NOT SUPPORT PROBLEMS THAT HAPPEN WITH YOUR GAME BECAUSE YOU UNINSTALLED THIS MOD.  YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

**********************************************
COMPATIBILITY/TROUBLESHOOTING:
**********************************************

Should be compatible with everything, in that it shouldn't cause your game to die a horrible death or wreck any vanilla quests.

All the brawlers in this mod are spawned from a leveled list and disabled/deleted when you leave the tavern (so you wont suddenly find thousands of brawling NPCs wandering around).  They use the vanilla unarmed combat mechanics and are pretty much boring, generic spawned NPCs leading boring, generic NPC lives.  In fact, they're probably fighting to relieve their boredom.

HOWEVER:

- If you use mods that add a lot of NPCs or other things to inns, you may have some issues with lag when you enter an inn.  If there's really TOO much going on, your game may hang or crash.  That's NOT a bug, your game engine is overloaded.  You'll have to pick which mods you want to use.  Sorry.

- If you use mods that MODIFY the vanilla inns, it's possible you won't spawn brawlers there any more.  No mod should remove the LocTypeInn keyword from a vanilla inn or remove the Innkeeper from the JobInnkeeperFaction, so if that happens, it's a problem with the mod that changes the inn.

- IF the inns added by a mod are too small for the brawls to be practical, there are two simple ways to address the problem, these are described in the next sections, and a more complicated method that uses TESVEdit and is fully described in the README.

*************************************
1) LOOK!  THEY'RE FIGHTING!
*************************************

If you get into an inn, the brawlers spawn and you want them to JUST GO AWAY, go talk to the Innkeeper.  Somewhere in the dialogue tree will be "Can you stop this fight?".  If the Innkeeper is using a vanilla voice, they'll respond "Of course."  (If it's a non-vanilla voice, they'll move their lips and no sound will come out.  That's OK.)  The two brawlers will be disabled and should disappear.

No, this part is not "immersive".  Pretend the innkeeper has a secret disintegration spell.

*****************************************************
2) STOP BRAWLERS FROM BEING SPAWNED
*****************************************************

In the event you are entering a tiny inn, or you don't want to deal with two drunks punching each other even for a moment, you can shut off the brawler spawning completely.

1) GO TO A CELL THAT IS **NOT** AN INN.  A store or house is fine, it just has to be someplace WITHOUT the LocTypeInn keyword.

2) MAKE A HARD SAVE, just in case.

3) Open the console and type

    "Set jknjb_BrawlingNPCsEnabled to 0"

but without the quotation marks.

4) Close the console.  Brawlers should not spawn when you walk into taverns.

To stop ONLY the EXTRA brawlers from being spawned (that is, the weekend brawlers in the Bannered Mare, Bee and Barb, Candlehearth Hall, Silver Blood Inn and Winking Skeever):

1) GO TO A CELL THAT IS **NOT** AN INN.  A store or house is fine, it just has to be someplace WITHOUT the LocTypeInn keyword.

2) MAKE A HARD SAVE, just in case.

3) Open the console and type

    "Set jknjb_BiggerBrawlsEnabled to 0"

but without the quotation marks.

4) Close the console.  NO EXTRA brawlers should spawn on Fredas and Loredas nights when you walk into those five taverns.  The two "normal" brawlers should still spawn.

*****************************************************************************
TO RESTART BRAWLER SPAWNS AFTER YOU'VE STOPPED THEM
*****************************************************************************

1) GO TO A CELL THAT IS **NOT** AN INN.  A store or house is fine, it just has to be someplace WITHOUT the LocTypeInn keyword.

2) MAKE A HARD SAVE, just in case.

3) Open the console and type

    "Set jknjb_BrawlingNPCsEnabled to 1"

OR, if you want to restart the extra brawlers,

   "Set jknjb_BiggerBrawlsEnabled to 1"

but without the quotation marks.

4) Close the console.  Brawlers should now spawn again when you walk into taverns.

********************************************************************************
3) IF YOU HAVE A MOD THAT ADDS TAVERNS and you DON'T want to have brawlers spawn in some or all of the taverns, you can use TESVEdit to make some minor changes to the mod that adds the taverns.

IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE EDITING A MOD WITH TESVEDIT, please use the innkeeper dialogue or the console method described above.  If you decide to go ahead and edit the mod adding taverns, MAKE A BACKUP OF THE ESP OF THAT MOD AND jknjbBarFight FIRST, just in case something goes wrong.

YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

THIS METHOD IS DESCRIBED IN FULL IN THE README FILE.

Special thanks to Qaxe Qaixaci for beta testing and letting me bounce ideas off him.  Cheers, mate!

SUGGESTED MODS:
************************

"Multiple Floors Sandboxing" (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/57376/?) by
Dovahklon - this will let the brawlers wander around a bit more if
you're in a multi-floor tavern.

While there are many fine mods that add inns to the game, some of the added inns are very small and aren't well-suited to having two drunks roaming around trying to punch each other's lights out.  The following mods add inns that are big enough for a decent brawl.  If you come across other mods that work well with Bar Fight, please let me know and I'll add it to the list.

"Qaxe's Questorium" (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/75451/?) by Qaxe Qaixaci/Ahondara -
adds quests, towns, new areas to explore, and, oh yeah, several big taverns that are compatible with the brawlers.  (PS - if you're in Armada, go say hello to Mad Matilde, that's me!)

"TES Arena Legendary Cities" (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/47989/?) by Jabr
- adds towns (and taverns!) all over Skyrim.  I did not brawl in every tavern, but the ones I went into worked fine.

"Aurora Village" (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/41852/?) by Scarla - adds a town and inn on the shores of Lake Illinalta.

**********************
MY OTHER MODS:
**********************

"Tavern Brawls" (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/76608/?) - The Dragonborn walked into a bar....  Have a brawl in any vanilla and many mod-added taverns.  No bets, no favors, just your fists and a milk drinker's face.

"Archery Perk Tree Overhaul" (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/77461/?) - reworks the vanilla archery perk tree and adds new mastery level perks.

"One-Handed Perk Tree Overhaul" (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/76538/?) - reworks some of the vanilla one-handed perks and adds new mastery-level perks.

"Whiterun - Bannered Mare Loft" (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/67296/?) - adds a small apartment over the bar in the Bannered Mare.

"Breezehome TNF Revisited" (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/67033/?) - my take on GoatK's "Breezehome TNF" (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31222/?) which he released to the modding community.
