About this mod

Currently just a replacer for Skyrim's gold coin.

Permissions and credits
This mod is WIP. Currently it just replaces the ingame gold coin with my textures and a tweaked vanilla mesh, based on either: the 5 ounce silver coin Frank Frazetta/Death Dealer by Osborne Mint; an Isle of Man noble platinum coin from 1986 with an image of a viking ship; an Isle of Man gold coin from 2015 with an image of a viking ship (not a recolour of the platinum coin); an Isle of Man 1/4 oz Gold Angel depicting St George besting a dragon (both sides tails); a  gold version of the Death Dealer coin. I intend to release my more coin replacers over time, and then an esp that incorporates them all into the game as levelled loot in the gold loot tables.

Suggestion for coins to use are welcome, I am focusing on thematically appropriate coins (at least for the 'tails' side). If people want to submit coins, I will credit you. This is the first time I have created artistic mod assets (previously all I had done was edit esps in xEdit for compatibility patches). It took a few hours to figure everything out (normal map creation, _m maps, appropriate alpha channels, fitting the new coin faces over the vanilla coin which isn't a perfect circle, etc). Now that i am familiar with the workflow, it will be much speedier to add more coins. I shall keep adding coins until I lose interest in this project or run out of endurance.

I am not 100% satisfied with the edges, but issues are only noticeable in Nifskope when the coin mesh occupies most of the screen. I have enlarged the mesh to 2x the size of the original to make these high resolution textures more evident in the game. If you decide to use my retexture, I would suggest that you download Coins of Tamriel, open the esp in xEdit, and delete all of the subcategories except for "Dialog Topic". Loading this reduced esp will change all references from Gold to Septims, far more appropriate for my silver coins.

Finally, I would like some feedback before creating my coins. Especially, do you want: a) verbatim coins (real world 'heads' and 'tails') b) the same 'tails' image on both sides c) 'tails' from 2 different coins d) tails only with a generic skyrim 'head' (this wouldn't really match the 'tails' side though). I ask this since it is of course extremely un-lorefriendly having a 'head' with Queen Elizabeth and '2016' on it.

This mod is creative commons, copyleft, forever free, and so on. You can mirror it, modify it,and add the coins to your own mod.

Update: I am becoming more familiar with the texture artists tools and procedures, and used 'Pstchotic' Bump for the first time to generate some appealing normal/specular/occlusion/height maps, which I have incorporated into version 1.02. The program itself has an eccentric UI but produces good results with the correct settings, far superior to the Nvidia Photoshop normal map plugin. I have added parallax mapping to the mesh as well (only 3 changes in the nif are needed to activate parallax mapping). Now all I need is to figure out how to create a higher poly coin mesh (I know nought about modelling).

+ I have added an Isle of Man platinum coin, parallaxed, as a gold coin replacer, and a non parallax mesh option.

+ Gold Isle of Man coin added.

+ Isle of Man St George & the dragon gold coin

+A fake gold version of the Death Dealer silver coin (colourized with the white highlights being mostly filled in and a little noise added via the RealGrain plugin). A real gold version to work from would have been better, but once was never cast. I had to redo the various 3d faking maps for this one rather than reuse the silver version ones. Also, added an improved parallax map for the silver Death Dealer coin (steeper & more defined).
