About this mod

Breathe fire and frost like a true dragon!

Permissions and credits
Let me show you the power of Talos Stormcrown, born of the North, where my breath... Is long winter*!

*or summer?

Disclaimer

Dragonfire Reborn, as the name implies, is a personal tweak that I made based on mods like DragonFire - Tactically Enhanced Breath Shouts, as well as Concentrative Fire and Frost Shouts for Player and Better Dragon Breath (BALANCED). I wasn't entirely satisfied with any of those mods, while loving many aspects of each one, and since my usual choice, DragonFire, was kinda outdated already, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

Overview

Dragonfire Reborn takes the concept of the original mod and the simplicity of the other two, to endow the Dovahkiin with the true breath of a dragon. Past can be the shame of your ridiculous fire and frost "sneezes" that would only manage to kill any true Dovah out of laughter.

Both shouts have been altered in the same pattern:

  • Yol / Fo: The first words of power for both shouts now use the effects the second words originally had, so they'll be just a bit stronger.

  • Toor / Krah: Acquiring the second words of power grants the Dragonborn access to the dragon fire ball and ice storm attacks, respectively. This is something that I loved from DragonFire that wasn't carried over to the other two mods. They should hit as hard as a Frost Dragon's ice storm. Cooldown has also been reduced to 45 seconds.

  • Shul / Diin: With the third words of power you'll finally master the dragon Thu'um. Your fire and ice breaths will be streams of flame and frost as powerful as an Elder Dragon's breath, and their cooldown is reduced to 60 seconds.

Requirements & Installation

Nothing but the main game, really. Just drop it in the Data folder by whatever means you're comfy with. It's just an .esp file.

Compatibility

  • Main Games:

The first words of power are still vanilla (only swapped to their second tier) so they should be compatible with Paarthumax's meditation The Fire Within and with Dragonborn's Epistolary Acumen enhancements for both shouts. Keep in mind that those effects will only apply to the first words from now on. Also, Paarthumax shouldn't get a hissy if you just sneeze fire at him with the first word of Fire Breath. He doesn't seem to appreciate fireballs, tho.

Anybody, friend or foe, that uses these shouts will be affected by this mod. So I'd advise caution around Draugr Scourges and higher.

  • Shout Overhauls:

This mod only changes two records - those for Fire and Frost Breath shouts. All I did was to swap the spells assigned to each word of power for others also included in the vanilla game. Any mod that overwrites those two records will override this mod and revert its changes. The two most popular mods that do this would be Improved Dragon Shouts and Thunderchild - Epic Shouts and Immersion. However, my mod already includes a lower cooldown for both breaths, so you can safely overwrite them with mine.

As with the game's own vanilla enhancements mentioned previously, any changes made to the spells or magic effects originally assigned to the shouts will only be carried over to the first words. For example, Dragon Shout Modifications - Ruminations on the Rotmulaag should add a fire wall effect to the first word of Fire Breath. Since I've swapped effects back and forth, expect some confusion on this subject.

  • Dragon Overhauls:

Since all I did was to swap effects with the dragon attacks, any changes made to those effects will be carried over to the second and/or third words. This means that any dragon overhaul that cranks them up to eleven will most likely allow you to blitzkrieg anything that dares to cross your path with obscene impunity. It also means that high leveled Draugr will be HELLA NASTY to deal with.

...

So, to keep it short, this mod shouldn't cause any technical issues (that I can think of) regardless of your mod list, but your choices might impact the way the shouts work further from this mod's scope.

Future development

The mod is simple enough that I don't believe it needs much bugfixing nor patching for compatibility, so I consider this a release version, but I'm open to suggestions and willing to address any unforseen issues that it might cause.

I didn't want the mod to be too overpowered, so I didn't just give the shouts the strongest versions for each effect to begin with. However, it should be easy enough to swap them if you need more juice to your shouts. I've considered the possibility of adding conditions so that the shouts power scales a bit with your level, even adding a MCM to do this at will anytime, and also individualizing the shouts so that draugrs don't kick your ass, but all of this would mean modifying more game records that would conflict with other mods. So I've decided to keep it simple at least for now.
