One Handed Perks Overhaul, by jknjb (Nexus)

DESCRIPTION:

I've never found a use for most of the one-handed perks in my game, even with my warrior characters.  They were either overpowered (BoneBreaker, I'm looking at you...) or next to useless (All I get for a 100 skill is a chance to paralyze someone with a backwards power attack?  Really?)

This mod changes the one-handed perk tree a bit.  I made it to accomodate my playing style, but it may be useful to others as well.  It modifies some of the vanilla one-handed perks, and adds some new ones, including new mastery-level perks so you get something useful for having a 100 skill and don't have to fight backwards all the time.

Please note that I made this for my game.  I've played it a fair bit, but it's not what I would consider exhaustively tested.  If you find a bug, or think the perks could be improved, let me know.  I'll try to fix any bugs, and I'll consider any suggestions in the spirit in which they were given.  However, I consider this to be more or less complete as is.

In other words, I made this mod for me, and am making it available to you.  Be constructive, bad manners will not get you very far.  If you don't like this mod, revert to your hard save and move on.

REQUIRED:

SKYRIM
no DLC or other mods required.

THIS MOD IS FREE.  If you paid for it, you got screwed.

PLEASE NOTE:  Permissions are open.  I would appreciate being told if you use
my mods in your own, but it's not required.  I do ask that you don't use
it in paid mods.  You are free to include this in a modpack.  However, I
won't be able to support any problems you may find if you use it as
part of a modpack because I'll have no way of knowing if anything has
been changed.

CURRENT PERKS:

ARMSMAN (Skill: 0, 20, 40, 60, 80)
- THIS IS THE SAME AS THE VANILLA PERK.  I'm open to suggestions for changes, but I'm pretty happy with it as it is.

FIGHTING STANCE (Skill: 20)
- THIS IS THE SAME AS THE VANILLA PERK.

CRITICAL CHARGE (Skill: 50)
- THIS IS THE SAME AS THE VANILLA PERK.

SAVAGE STRIKE (Skill: 50)
- THIS IS THE SAME AS THE VANILLA PERK.

DISARM OPPONENT (Skill: 75)
- A sideways power attack has a 15% chance to disarm your opponent when engaged in melee combat.
- This is a NEW perk.
- Requirements: One-handed skill 75, either Critical Charge or Savage Strike.

PUGILIST (Skill: 30)
- Unarmed attacks with bare fists do extra damage.
- In short, if you're not wearing gauntlets, you do extra unarmed damage.  Good for brawling, and you don't have to waste perks going up the heavy armor perk tree to get Fists of Steel if you're a light armor player.  As with any other type of unarmed combat, the vanilla game doesn't give you combat experience, but if you like to brawl, and prefer light armor, this perk is for you.
- This is a NEW perk.
- Requirements: One-handed skill 30, Armsman 00.

KNUCKLE SANDWICH (Skill: 75)  - NEW IN VERSION 1.1a
- Unarmed standing power attacks have a 25% chance of knocking down your opponent and doing extra damage.
- This is a NEW perk.
- Requirements: One-handed skill 75, Pugilist

BLADESMAN (Skill: 30, 60, 90)
- Attacks with swords pierce weak spots in armor, causing bleeding damage in living opponents.
- In short, you get to ignore a little bit of your opponent's armor and get a little bit of extra damage from bleeding.
- In opponents who don't bleed, you still get to ignore a little bit of your opponent's armor, but no extra damage from bleeding.
- This is a MODIFICATION of the vanilla Bladesman perk, so any NPCs that have this will get the same changes.
- Requirements: Same as for the vanilla Bladesman perk.

STAB WOUND (Skill: 100)
- Attacks with swords have a 20% chance of doing critical damage.
- This stacks with the Bladesman perk and applies to *all* your opponents.
- This is a NEW perk.
- Requirements: One-handed skill 100, Bladesman 90

BONE BREAKER (Skill: 30, 60, 90)
- Attacks with maces ignore 20%/35%/50% of armor, depending on the level of the perk.
- In short, I nerfed the amount of armor you ignore.
- This is a MODIFICATION of the vanilla BoneBreaker perk, so any NPCs who have it will get the same changes.
- Requirements: Same as for the vanilla BoneBreaker perk.

CRUSH (Skill: 100)
- Attacks with maces have a 20% chance of doing critical damage.
- This stacks with the BoneBreaker perk and applies to *all* your opponents.
- This is a NEW perk.
- Requirements: One-handed skill 100, BoneBreaker 90

HACK AND SLASH (Skill: 30, 60, 90)
- THIS IS THE SAME AS THE VANILLA PERK.  I'm open to suggestions for changes, but I think this is pretty good as it is.

WEAK POINTS (Skill: 100)
- Attacks with war axes target weak points in armor (ignore 25% of armor).
- This stacks with the Hack and Slash perk and applies to *all* your opponents.
- This is a NEW perk.
- Requirements: One-handed skill 100, Hack and Slash 90

DUAL FLURRY (Skill: 30, 50)
- THIS IS THE SAME AS THE VANILLA PERK.

DUAL SAVAGERY (Skill: 70)
- THIS IS THE SAME AS THE VANILLA PERK.

BLADE TORNADO (Skill: 100)
- Forward power attacks with dual one-handed weapons hit all targets in front of you.
- This stacks with your other perks.  Tee hee.
- This is a NEW perk.
- Requirements: One-handed skill 100, Dual Savagery

Vanilla one-handed perks that are no longer in the perk tree are still in the game, just not available in the perk tree.  SO, if you really like fighting backwards, you can.  You'll just have to add the perk using the console.

INSTALLATION:

1) MAKE A HARD SAVE AND PUT IT SOMEPLACE SAFE.

2) Drop the esp in your Data folder.  Make sure it's LOWER in your load order than any other mod that changes the one-handed perks and/or one-handed perk tree or you won't get the changes.

You SHOULD be able to add this to your game at any point, though obviously it's more useful on a fresh game.  Since all the vanilla perks are still there in the perk tree (except for Paralyzing Strike) any one-handed perks you've taken SHOULD translate to the new tree.  You DID make a hard save first, just in case, RIGHT?

UPDATING:

Drop the new esp into your data folder; let it overwrite the old one.  Or just do the update with the mod manager of your choice.

UNINSTALLATION:

1) REVERT TO YOUR HARD SAVE.  REALLY.

No?  OK, but I won't support problems that arise from removing the mod mid-game....

IN THEORY, if you haven't taken any of the new perks, you should be able to remove the esp from your Data folder and all the perks will still be in the same place.  The benefits of the perks (Bladesman, Bone Breaker, etc) will revert to the vanilla versions.  If you've taken any of the NEW perks, you'll lose them.  Sorry, that's the way it works.  You can use the console to give yourself back the perk points.

That's the THEORY.  Really, play with this for a while in a test game so you don't have to uninstall from your prized level 5000 character and risk screwing up your game.

COMPATIBLE WITH:

- SHOULD be fine with any mod that doesn't alter the vanilla one-handed perks or one-handed perk tree, in that it won't break anything.  Some other mods (probably weapon/enchantment mods) may make these perks really overpowered  or really nerfed.

- NPCs who have any of the perks altered in this mod will have the new perk effects.

MY OTHER MODS:

Breezehome TNF Revisited (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/67033/?)

Whiterun - Bannered Mare Loft (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/67296/?)

Tavern Brawls (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/76608/?) - works well with the PUGILIST perk from this mod
