Ysgramor and the Atmorans brought with them the worship of animal gods: the hawk, wolf, snake, moth, owl, whale, bear, fox, and most importantly the dragon. Over time, as Nord beliefs evolved, the traditional Nordic Pantheon of Divines emerged as personifications of natural forces and ideas. UESP

Mod Features

Discover the Meanings behind Nordic Ruins

Learn the Old Ways of the Ancient Nords

Become a True Dungeon Crawler

You can now solve Nordic door puzzles without needing to look at the codes on the backs of claws.

The solutions to each door are simple, accessible and not very surprising, but still make finding the solution an initial challenge. As you clear each claw puzzle, though, you should start to feel like a sort of "expert" on Nordic ruins.

Look and you'll see the answers written on the walls.

There is one door that requires you to solve a couple of riddles - the answers should be solvable with some knowledge of Nordic lore, reading Varieties of Faith in the Empire, and/or talking to Tsun.

Let me know if you find a solution that doesn't work, and I'll fix it.

Mod Premise

"The work of the mind - sadly undervalued in Skyrim." Farengar Secret-Fire

It was difficult to remove the codes from the original Skyrim claw meshes; if you tried to delete the symbols, you'd be left with a giant hole in the model. But after johnskyrim released his Dragon Claws mod and someone successfully removed the codes off of those, it became practical to add real solutions to those claw puzzles!

csbx released a mod before I made this one called Better Claw Puzzles, which is another great puzzle option. I personally wasn't a fan of some of the puzzle implementations, so I went ahead and made a simpler puzzle mod, which should still require some initial thinking.

Recommendations and Compatibility

Recommended to use with Claws Without Hints, to remove those pesky claw symbols.

Compatible with Better Claw Puzzles, as far as I know; some of the features of our mods may actually complement each other well, providing multiple ways to decipher a code!

A lighting mod like ELFX or RLO, along with Dynamic Immersive Seriously Dark Dungeons, greatly adds to the ambiance - now you need to use a torch to find out the solution. Load my plugin before your favorite dungeon lighting mod.

Also add some retexture mods like Vivid Landscapes, Rustic Nordic Murals, and Ruins Clutter Improved for easier-to-see textures.

Spoilers

Bethesda had a Nordic mural resource for each claw puzzle, so I made the Hall of Stories outside of each door properly reflect the claw solution. Now, the first mural in the Hall will correspond with the outer ring, the the second mural with the center ring, etc. For example, if the code is Hawk-Moth-Wolf, the mural furthest from the door will be for Kyne (hawk), the middle mural will be for Dibella (moth), and the mural closest to the puzzle door will be Mara (wolf).

There should be at least three types of murals in each Hall. Sometimes, there is an extra mural on the end, usually of the "dragon" god, to symbolize that there may be a powerful enemy like a dragon priest waiting to be awoken on the other side.

Reachwater Rock - Special Case

The riddles to solve the Reachwater Rock door can be found on the dead adventurer lying next to the Emerald Claw, in a note called "Dead Adventurer's Note." They are as follows:

The First God
As Shield-Thane he answered the call,
And now guards his master's Great Hall;
While he stood strong and true,
Though he was matched by few,
Defending his lord caused his fall.

Bear (Tsun)

The Second God

Fierce warrior, Shield-Thane to Shor,
Taught Men to take prisoners of war;
Owing this he'll be called,
By every bard and skald,
The Ransom-God forever more.

Whale (Stuhn)

The Third God
A curse on the Nords he awoke;
The wrath of Shor he did provoke;
Shor defeated King's Bane
On the Spirit Plane
And ruined the tormentor's folk.

Snake (Orkey)

Please give me feedback on the riddles. I'm certainly no poet or lore expert; everything I wrote was from UESP and /r/teslore. Let me know if the limericks are too weird or confusing, don't make sense, or don't follow the lore - even when knowing information from in-game sources like Tsun or Varieties of Faith in the Empire.
