The ranking and experience system has been introduced in version 1.1. Earning ranks will change a few of the Apparition mechanics. It will also give you more chances of obtaining new perks (Perks listed below).

Every time you use an Awakening spell to bring an Apparition in to your duty, you will gain experience depending on the level of the spell used. For example: Using Awaken Foolish Apparition will give you a lot less experience points than Wicked Sword Dance. The more experience you earn will give you perk points. The perk points are generated from a certain percentage each time you earn one, so regardless of how many times you start a new game the number should be different.

Not only does obtaining higher ranks give you more perk investment access, but it also will be a huge factor in terms of actually triggering the Apparitions. All Apparitions share one effect: Whenever any Apparition takes damage, there is a chance it will either calm or create fear towards the enemy that attacked it. The higher the rank you are, the higher the chance will be for an Apparition to actually trigger that effect. Also, if you are below the rank Apparition Mastermind, the Apparitions will automatically die after the effect is triggered. However, if you have reached that rank or passed it, they will stay alive in combat. Just a note: The trigger effects only happen once per Awakening. Illusionist Apparition will die regardless of your rank.

The ranks are below:
  • Novice Awakener
  • Apparition Apprentice
  • Awakening Expert
  • Apparition Mastermind
  • Apparition God

To check how much experience you need to get to the next rank or earn a new perk point: Check the SkyUI MCM menu! The perks are listed below:

Phantom Blessings - There is a percentage chance you will regenerate all your magic when summoning an Apparition
Ranger's Blessings - When Malicious Ranger's Apparition shoots an enemy, you regenerate a small amount of health.
Bonding Blessings - When you swap positions with your Apparition via Apparition Switch, your stamina is fully restored.
Supplementing Blessings - There is a small percentage chance that you will regenerate all your health when a Grid spell is triggered.
Ghostly Bulk-Up - All Apparitions that are awakened have more base health.
Nocturnal Grid - You will be constantly covered by Nocturnal's shadows. If you are attacked while sneaking, a Nocturnal Apparition will be summoned.
Apparition Rage - If an Apparition under your control takes 3 hits in combat, their movement speed is increased by 10% and their stamina is fully restored.
Boiling Beast Blood - If your Awakened Beast Apparition falls under 30% health, once per awakening its stamina and health are fully restored.
Roar of Twin Chemistry - Duplex Apparitions grow to normal height and are more powerful in combat.
Awakening Reinforcements - When an Apparition begins to initiate combat, there is a chance it will awaken it's own Apparition in combat that won't count towards your limit.
Fainting Soul - When an Apparition takes damage in combat, there is a chance that the attacker will become paralyzed
Sacrificial Fainting Soul - When an Apparition dies in combat, a filled lesser soul gem has a probability of being dropped at its death location.
Hopeless Soul - When an Apparition dies in combat, a filled common soul gem has a probability of being dropped at its death location.
Fainting Star - When an Apparition dies in combat, a VERY RARE chance of Azura's Star will be dropped at it's death location.
Sacrificial Fainting Soul - When an Apparition dies in combat, a filled black soul gem has a probability of being dropped at its death location.
Perfected Shadow Arts - Shadow Dance is now more powerful.
Lyrical Shadow Dance - Shadow Dance also has a chance of also paralyzing a target.
Intense Shadow Dance - Shadow Dance lasts much longer now.
Choreography of Shadow Arts - You are now able to attack in Shadow Dance form.

The video above provides footage and an explanation over the Shadow Dance feature introduced in 1.2.

I've come to realize that the original version of Shadow Awakening was extremely overpowered and had many other imbalances. Instead, to make the Nocturnal Apparition more unique, I've introduced the Shadow Dancing ability. Shadow Dance is an ability that can be either enabled in 2 ways (6/28/2016):

  • Being attacked while sneaking & invisible
  • Activating a Nocturnal Apparition

This ability essentially turns you into an Apparition yourself. Obviously, as a controller and user of Apparition magic, this transformation makes you stronger. When enter Shadow Dance mode, you are turned into a large shadow with a ghost trail following you. You are given very light buffs that can be changed through perks. However, you cannot attack and you are vulnerable to damage.

Now the purpose of Illusion is to manipulate the mind of your enemies. With that being said, the Shadow Dance ability can leave your opponents confused, distracted or scared when used properly. If you are attacked while in Shadow Dance form, there is a chance that your attacker will be scared of you and refuse to fight you. You can also use Apparition Grid to stack with Shadow Dance to create an ultimate distraction and beatdown of an enemy.

For those Dota players, this ability may sound very similar to Slark's Shadow Dance, except has been adjusted to fit this mod. You need to be at least the 2nd rank for this ability to work.

Thank you so much for trying this mod out. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to leave a comment on the NexusMods page or on one of the HX Apparitions videos on my YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/HeroicX)
