SSE version now available featuring all races here

Description
This mod allows the player to find his or her long lost son to travel around Skyrim with as a follower.  After you've been Thane of Riften for a few days, you should get a letter telling you that a child claiming to be your son has turned up in Riften.  After receiving the letter, you can go and reunite with him, and recruit him to travel around with you.  After recruiting your kid, his home will be set to Honeyside.  I would recommend using a mod like My Home is Your Home to set his home to wherever you want him to live.

Currently missing features:

  • There is no support for having a daughter at the moment.  I hope to get around to this at some point, but crawling through the lines of dialogue to try and create a small dialogue sequence that made any kind of logical and tonal sense took quite a while, and since the malechild and femalechild voice types have unique lines, it will probably take me almost as long the second time through.
  • Support for elf and orc children is not part of this release.  I couldn't find very many mods that added child versions of those races, and none of the ones i did find seemed to be as popular as the My Little Kitty / Hatchling mods.  If anyone finds a mod that adds them, and wants me to add support for it, link it in the discussions tab, and I'll look into supporting it.
  • I started planning out a tiny little scene where the player can make his or her kid apologize to one of the merchants in Riften for damaging one of the stalls while running from the guards (part of the little backstory in the letter you receive), but scenes are new to me, and I wanted to get the base mod out there and get feedback on it first.

This mod does not:

  • Allow child races to wear armor meant for adults - I wanted to keep this mod as focused and compatible as possible, so I left this up to other mods. There are a few to choose from.  Pick one that works for you.
  • Allow you to adopt your son - He'll still call you Ma or Pa, but I wanted people to be able to take their kid adventuring, so he's recruitable but not adoptable.  Getting npcs to switch between being adopted children and followers is pretty tricky.  Maybe one day I'll take that on.

Installation

I would recommend using the Nexus Mod Manager or a similar mod managing solution, but if you insist on installing manually, just put the .esp and .bsa into your Data folder.

Known Issues

  • This was my first time packing a .bsa file, and I'm not entirely sure that all the required files were included.  If you have any errors that you think may be related to missing files, please let me know.
  • I haven't been able to test this file with a save that wasn't previously Thane of Riften.  I've come up with what I believe is a working solution to kick off the quest a few days after becoming Thane of Riften, but all my saves have already completed that quest.  If anyone has a vanilla save that's reasonably close to finishing the Thane quest, I would appreciate it if you could send it to me.
  • There are a few dialogue edits where I stitched together two parts of a line, and not all of them are completely seamless.  I tried to make the edits as clean as possible, but I was working with limited resources.
  • Occasionally during combat, if your kid is lagging behind you, and enters combat range just as you are killing the last enemy, he'll use Ice Form or Unrelenting Force just as combat has ended, which will result in you and any other allies or bystanders being sent flying or freezing solid for about 45 seconds.  If any allies or bystanders get hit, they'll see it as an assault and will start fighting your kid.  It's pretty annoying, but has only happened to me a handful of times.  If it bothers you, just use TES5Edit and remove the two shouts from your kid's spell list.
Required Mods
  • Skyrim and ALL THREE PIECES OF DLC - I pulled dialogue from wherever I could.  Therefor you must have the DLC packs to use this mod.  Besides, they're worth getting, they're pretty cheap by now, and they go on sale pretty much every month or so.
  • MFVM - This adds dialogue topics that allow children to be used as followers.
  • The RS Children version requires RS Children

Part of the inspiration for this mod came from a mod which is no longer available called Ma'dashe.  The khajiit version of the player's son is based on that character.  The player's son knowing Unrelenting Force and Ice Form was a concept originating from that mod as well.
