MACROMANCY 3
"These little Alteration spells change Skyrim in a big way!"

Macromancy is a mod that brings size-changing spell effects to the world of Skyrim, featuring seven unique spells that increase the versatility and eccentricity of the School of Alteration. The previous versions of this mod, created by harbinger86 and improved upon by Vanax8991, were welcome additions to my load order. After two years of waiting, however, it's high time for an update; with permission to continue their work, I proudly present Version 3!

To those of you playing Skyrim: Special Edition, don't despair - I've got you covered.

NEW MACROMANCY MOD COMING WHENEVER

Features

  • This mod contains six Apprentice-level Alteration spells (Absorb Size, Give Size, Grow, Restore Size, Restore Size Other, Shrink) and one Adept-level Alteration spell (Mass Absorb Size) that allow you to change your size as well as that of humanoid NPCs.
  • Furthermore, two lesser powers (Consume Dragon Soul, Consume Size) can be unlocked by reaching certain maximum sizes.
  • A spell merchant and Expert-level Alteration trainer named Nazira can be found at The Frozen Hearth in Winterhold; she sells all of the items added by this mod, as well as some miscellaneous mage gear.
  • Some of the spells also have corresponding staves (Absorb Size, Give Size, Mass Absorb Size, Restore Size Other) and scrolls (Restore Size, Mass Absorb Size, Restore Size Other).
  • The spell tomes, staves, and scrolls created by this mod have been added to the appropriate leveled lists; you should be able to find them as loot in dungeons or in the shop inventories of certain merchants.

The Spells

  • Absorb Size: Causes the target to shrink, transferring their size to the caster.
  • Give Size: Causes the target to grow at the expense of the caster's maximum size. Requires a maximum size value greater than 1.
  • Grow: Causes the caster to increase in height, provided they are currently smaller than their maximum size.
  • Restore Size: Returns the caster to their normal height.
  • Restore Size Other: Returns the target to their normal height.
  • Shrink: Causes the caster to dwindle in size.
  • Mass Absorb Size: Drains size from all targets in the area of impact.
  • Consume Dragon Soul: Converts a dragon soul into additional size. This power does not have a spell tome.
  • Consume Size: Converts the caster's maximum size into extra health, magicka, and stamina. This power does not have a spell tome.

Installation

The latest version of this mod, at the time of writing, is 3.2. I highly recommend updating if you have an earlier version. (Special thanks to Narsis for the spell idea, EpicCrab for the rudimentary - albeit nonfunctional - MCM, and to all of this mod's endorsers for their support. Update 3.2 would not have been possible without them.)

Requires SKSE - without the Skyrim Script Extender, the size-changing scripts will fail to actually change anyone's size. The latest version (at the time of writing, 1.7.3) is preferable.

I recommend installing this with Mod Organizer. Others may prefer the Nexus Mod Manager. If you choose to download the mod manually, simply extract the archive and move the contents of the resulting folder to the Skyrim/Data folder to install.

Users of one of the mod managers can uninstall this mod automatically if they so choose, but for manual uninstallation, you'll have to delete the Macromancy3.esp and all files preceded by the letters "vmm".

Compatibility

Fully Compatible

You name it. (Exceptions below.)

Mostly Compatible (No Action Needed)

Macromancy Revamp - Also inspired by Macromancy 2, Revamp adds additional size-changing effects. Due to scripting inconsistencies, it's functional but buggy when used alongside this mod.

RaceMenu - The plugin RaceMenuPlugin.esp has a feature that allows the user to scale the character's height using SetNodeScale. You can use this feature if you'd like, but be advised that this mod will override it.

Somewhat Compatible (Action Needed)

Any mod that modifies the same leveled lists. If you want to make sure the items from both mods show up in leveled lists, just create a Bashed Patch.

Any mod that edits the interior of The Frozen Hearth in Winterhold. Nazira should reside there regardless, but just in case, load this mod last.

Not Compatible

Conflicts with (nearly) any mod that regularly changes the Fame/Infamy actor values, like Requiem. (Note: Macromancy's scripts are open-source; provided you know what you're doing, you can swap out the two actor values for different ones to suit your particular mod setup.)

Known Issues

I am no longer developing Macromancy 3; however, everyone has permission to redistribute, edit, and/or update this mod so long as no money is being made from it and harbinger86, Vanax8991, and I are credited. Furthermore, all scripts are open-source. With this in mind, here are some of the things I wasn't able to address in the latest release:

  • Macromancy 3.2's Mod Configuration Menu (requires SkyUI) does not function as intended: No matter what your Fame and Infamy actor values are set to, it will always display your current and maximum sizes as 0.000.
  • Some of the objects added by this mod are erroneously missing object bounds. I was unable to fix this error using the Creation Kit, but it is possible to use TES5Edit to give these items object bounds. (I recommend making those edits last.)
  • Absorb Size and Give Size don't grant experience.
  • Actors may shrink below the intended minimum value of .25 due to a scripting oversight. The minimum size cap should have been enforced by a ForceAV command, not a SetAV command, as SetAV doesn't account for changes made by ModAV.

More Information

To those who are not satisfied with the knowledge that this mod will allow you to steal size from your enemies, give size to your friends, and roam Skyrim at any size from giant to tiny without using the setscale command, here's some fun facts about the mod:

  • In the vanilla game, the sizes of objects are determined both by SetScale and SetNodeScale, the values of both of which are (usually) 1 by default. Frequent console command users probably already know about SetScale (including its limitations; for instance, the first person camera only scales at or below normal height), but SetNodeScale is not modified the same way (nor subject to the same limitations, for the most part).
  • With this mod, every time you cast a size-changing spell, the SetNodeScale value of the caster/target/both will be updated to equal whatever Fame (the current size of the actor) actor value - AV for short - the spell has given that actor. Fame will always be equal to or less than Infamy (the maximum size of the actor), which is best kept at a value of 1 or higher. So, for example, a character made twice their original size with this mod will likely have a Fame (and Infamy) AV of 2. (Also, this mod changes the default values of Fame and Infamy from 0 to 1 to match everyone's base SetNodeScale value, as the two AVs are used in this mod but serve no purpose in the vanilla game.)
  • If you want to test out this mod's features (and consider yourself a filthy cheater), there are a number of console commands you can use. For instance, you can manually increase your maximum size (e.g. "player.setav infamy 100") or use "coc winterholdthefrozenhearth" to instantly pay Nazira a visit.
  • Your Absorb Size spells can shrink NPCs to death; when that happens, a fraction of their total Health, Stamina, Magicka, Carry Weight, Melee Damage, and Unarmed Damage stats will be added to your own. Furthermore, shrinking and growing decrease and increase some of those same stats respectively, and can be further increased by using the Consume Size power (which depletes your maximum size by 1 with each use).
  • Each spell has a corresponding, more potent dual cast effect - except for Restore Size, which simply resets your size to 1.

For a more immersive experience, I recommend pairing this with Skyrim - Enhanced Camera or something similar.

Users have also requested modifications to the third person camera, and while I don't have a way to incorporate any into the mod, I am aware of a few camera tweaks you can do yourself. Just add the following lines to your Skyrim.ini file:

[Camera]
fVanityModeMaxDist=6000.0000
fVanityModeMinDist=155.0000
fMouseWheelZoomMinDelta=0.0050
fMouseWheelZoomSpeed=0.8000
fMouseWheelZoomIncrement=0.01
fMinCurrentZoom=0.001

Future Plans

I am no longer editing this mod. Take heart, however - I'll get back to Macromancy eventually.

If you have any questions, the comments section is open, and if you like this mod, be sure to leave an endorsement.

Again, you have my permission to edit and redistribute this mod as long as you credit the previous authors and I. Credit for the original Macromancy mods goes to harbinger86 and Vanax8991 - their work deserves an endorsement as well.
