Permissions and credits
This armor mod provides a set of light and heavy armors in both male and female versions, along with a matching light and heavy shield. Both light and heavy versions have a “cowl” helmet, and the light version also has an alternate “hood”.   The armor can be crafted, tempered and enchanted. The light and heavy versions look identical, but have the same stats as dragonscale and dragonplate, appropriately.  It is also "beast race" compatible.

BACKGROUND:

I was playing a “ranger” type character, and was not satisfied with the vanilla dragonscale armor.  Let’s face it -- to be top tier of armors, the vanilla dragon armors are just boring to look at.

Searching here on the Nexus, I found the  Ritual Armor of Boethiah  to be something that was very close to what I was looking for.  The textures on that armor are nothing less than amazing.   The problem that I had was that the armor set was too “true to form” – it LOOKED exactly like an armor of a master assassin dedicated to the most evil of daedra.  I was playing a more “good” ranger, and the look just did not fit.

Secondly, although the super-hugging “cat-suit” form of the Ritual armor looks stunning on a female character, it is not, in my opinion, as aesthetically pleasing on a male form.

I eventually came across the Masters of Death  Sicarius Armor set.  The form was exactly what I had envisioned -- it looked like it would have enough bulk to protect you, yet be flexible enough that a stealthy character would be comfortable in moving about in.

Basically, I married the two mods.  I used the Sicarius Armor as the mesh base, and then reused and transformed the textures from the Ritual Armor, and sprinkled in some new textures of my own.

Now, you might be wondering about the color scheme and the name of this armor.  Those of you who have ever used the excellent  Deadly Dragons mod know how really annoying the Nether Dragons are at low levels.   They appear out of nowhere, attack, and then vanish again.   I know that mechanically, they are just making themselves invisible.  However, I always envisioned them “shifting” into the Nether Plane, some nebulous place of shadow.    The color scheme of those nether dragons always seemed wrong to me. Instead of brown and garish orange, I always thought they should be colored more appropriately with the colors of gloom, with deep blues and purples. This armor set is what I envision could be crafted from the hide of my re-imagined Nether Dragon, inscribed in the dragon script with the shouts used by the Dovahkiin.

Note that the pictures that I made do not do justice to the actual colors.  When I converted my screenshots to JPEG format, the process washed out a good bit of the color.  The actual colors are more vibrant, with a subtle chromatic color-shifting in different lighting conditions for the smaller “flex-scales”.

There was a huge amount of trial and error involved in trying to place pieces of texture in order to get them positioned exactly right to match up to the mesh form, not to mention playing with different color and effect layers to achieve the look that I wanted.  It took me six months and hundreds of hours, but I think the final result isn’t half bad. I know the look won’t be for everyone, but I hope that there will be some people that will enjoy using the armor as much as I have.

SPECIAL THANKS to the original mod creators Wasbunny and fume0101 who did such excellent work for me to build upon.
