MAJOR UPDATE - Version 2.0
Version 2.0 of Adopt Aventus Aretino is an overhaul of this mod, made possible with the help of Simdrew1993's Adopt Aventus Aretino - Fully Voiced Patch. It's a mandatory requirement to make this work.

HEARTHFIRE REQUIRED
You can now adopt Aventus Aretino. Speak to him in the Aretino Residence after completing the quest Innocence Lost.

Recommendation for people who have mods that return Aventus back to the Orphanage: Turn on this mod AFTER Aventus has returned.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Once Aventus is adopted the game treats him just like any other adopted kid. To unadopt him you can't just disable this mod; you'll need to do stuff that allows you to unadopt any kid, such as disabling Hearthfire entirely and then re-enabling it again.

This might help if after you've adopted Aventus into your house, he keeps following you around trying to talk to you. It's from the Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions FAQs:
Q: Help!?!? My child is stalking me!
A: You've run into a Hearthfire bug involving custom and/or mod added dogs/pets. Easy to fix:
- Open the console
- Click the kid
- Enter the following 3 commands:
setav variable06 0
setav variable07 0
evp
--- MOD COMPATIBILITY STUFF ---
Strongly recommend using a mod organizer with automated mod sorting and load ordering, like Vortex.
Obviously, all the USKP / USLEEP type of huge overhaul mods should be loaded above (i.e. before) all your other mods.
For Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions: Should go above/before this mod.
For Dragon's Keep: Should go above/before this mod.
For players using Restoring the Aretino Residence:
My mod is not 100% compatible with this, because Restoring the Aretino Residence overrides the vanilla kid adoption system for Aventus. If you have already invited Aventus to move back into his renovated house, but still want to have Aventus do the vanilla adopted kid behaviours (like being able to give him a gift, play games with him, make him do chores), here's the step by step of what you need to do:

For the load order, put the patch (adoptAventusPatch-TKAA.esp) below both Adopt Aventus Aretino (adoptAventusAretino.esp) and The Kids Are Alright (TKAA.esp). It doesn't matter whether Adopt Aventus Aretino or The Kids Are Alright goes first, as long as the patch is after both.

If you are using Dolls: Download the patch for my mod provided under the heading "Adopt Aventus Aretino patch - Dolls".
For the load order, put the patch (adoptAventusPatch-Dolls.esp) below both Adopt Aventus Aretino (adoptAventusAretino.esp) and Dolls (dolls.esp). It doesn't matter whether Adopt Aventus Aretino or Dolls goes first, as long as the patch is after both.
**NOTE: It does not matter whether or not you use USKP/USLEEP in this case.**

PRINCE AND THE PAUPER
Download the correct patch/optional file depending on what option you select in your install of the Prince and Pauper mod. As with all of my patches, you should only need one patch. The load order is Prince and Pauper and other children mods first, then my Adopt Aventus Aretino mod file (adoptAventusAretino.esp), then finally the patch file.
If using the basic Prince and Pauper mod, download the optional file under the heading "Adopt Aventus Aretino patch - Prince and Pauper only".
if using Prince and Pauper with RS Children option selected, download the optional file under the heading "Adopt Aventus Aretino patch - Prince and Pauper with RS".
**NOTE: It does not matter whether or not you use USKP/USLEEP in this case.**

- Use the Bless Home spell (from Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions) inside the restored Aretino house with the children's bedroom.
- Click on Aventus and type into the console: setfactionrank 03004290 3 - This will reset Aventus back to before you invited him to move into the house. Aventus should start saying "I'll go back to the orphanage..." again.
- Talk to Aventus - the adoption option should show up now. Choose "I've got a nice new house" (the custom player home option).
- Leave Windhelm (fast travel to another city) and then come back into the Aretino house. Aventus will welcome you as if he was just adopted by you.
