DRAGON LORD ESTATE v 0.20 beta
By: Leomartis

The Dragon Lord Estate mod is something that I've been working on for about two years, on and off.  It was inspired by my favorite Fallout mod, the 'Underground Hideout' by DanTheGeek.  I tend to play Skyrim (and Fallout) as a collector and pack rat, and always wanted a good way to "collect" all the major weapons and armor from the game and place them on display.  But I don't stop there, as I also hoard food and drinks, books, crafting items, treasures and more.  So the Dragon Lord Estate mod is intended to be the ultimate player home mod for collectors like me.

This is a beta release and therefore should be approached with all the appropriate caution that's due a beta release.  There will no doubt be things you come across that don't work as expected, but I continue to work on this mod and will be adding features and fixing bugs as fast as personal life allows.  The mod works pretty well on my machine; I have a moderately powerful PC, so it's possible if you're running an older machine it may have a problem with some of the larger areas, although to date I haven't received any feedback suggesting there are problems in that area.

IMPORTANT: The Dragon Lord Estate requires that you have all of the official DLCs and the official update file, otherwise this mod will not run.  You do NOT need SKSE at the moment, I'm trying to avoid using it just to lower the usage requirements.

====THINGS TO KNOW====

Since this is a beta release, I'm not requiring any special quests to obtain the Estate, however I definitely will be doing so in the future.  I am a strong believer that lower level characters should be broke, weak, roughing it and struggling to survive, not setup in the nicest home in Skyrim this side of a Jarl's castle.  For the moment though, you'll find the Estate ready for you to explore, just North-East of the Battle-Born Farm.

Search the blacksmith area in the cellar for the secret door to  your personal treasure room.

The Bag of Holding is located in the magical study, it looks like a large coin bag.  The magical study is in the "Halls of Magic," which is in the cellar.  To open the Bag of Holding, simply equip it.  For now be careful not to accidentally lose this bag or accidentally store it inside itself; I'm working on a way to address this if you do, but that will be in a future release.

The tomes with the teleport items spells are located in the Spell Tomes cabinet in the magical study.  The magical study is in the "Halls of Magic," which is in the cellar.

The cellar and all underground rooms are accessed through a secret entrance.  Check the cabinet near the shrines.  You can also touch the nearby Diabella statue to open/close the secret entrance.

At the moment, the Private Museum only has a few static displays completed, but I'll be adding to this room constantly with future releases.  You can add appropriate items directly to static displays by clicking the display, or you can use the museum's sorting system to auto-sort all items.  To use the auto-sort, just place all target items in the museum's "Acquisitions" cabinet, then use the Museum Ledger to "Process Acquisitions" and any applicable items from the cabinet will automatically get put on display; items that aren't supported yet or are duplicates will get moved to the "Rejections" cabinet so you can take them back.

To find the teleportation room, search around in the wine cellar for the entrance.  To activate a portal, you simply place a magical stone in the pedestal of your choice and the door will appear.  There are two stones, one is the "Water Stone" the other is the "Ice Stone".  The Water Stone activates portals to Inns around Skyrim, the Ice Stone activates portals to other vanilla player homes around Skyrim.  The pedestals are set to Inns initially, so if you want to use the Ice Stone to access other player homes, first switch the giant level at the end of the hall.  Before you go through a portal for the first time, grab the "Portal Sight" spell tome in the hall.  You can use this spell to reveal the portal back to your teleportation room once you're on the other side.  You have to be in the same place where the portal door is located for "Portal Sight" to work.  Note, you need to key to the player home to get through the portal otherwise it will be locked; this is to keep you from being able to teleport into the empty player homes before you have bought them cause that's cheating.

There is a Ledger on the desk in the master bedroom of the Living Quarters; this can be used to hire servants for the Estate.  At the moment you can hire a bard and/or a carriage driver.  The "Master Bard" is expensive but worth it because if you're a member of the Thieves' Guild then you can sell her your stolen goods; it's like having a merchant in your house that buys anything, and sings pretty well too.

If you get "trolled" then remember the console command COC exists.  This will make sense if you need it to make sense.

All features fixed or added with Beta 0.15 are courtesy fellow modder ps46183.  Thank you for the contributions!

====INSTALLATION====

This should be really simple.  If you don't use the Nexus Mod Manager then just copy the files into your game's data directory.  I have make efforts to write this mod in ways not extremely likely to conflict with other mods, but conflicts are still possible in some rare cases, so to reduce the chances that other mods affect this one, I highly recommend that you place this mod as close to last as possible in the load order.

====UPGRADING====

It's ALWAYS wise to save your game and backup your mod files before upgrading, so you can easily roll back to an earlier version if needed.  Typically you simply need to copy the files in the distribution over the existing files to upgrade, however see below for special cases.

Upgrading to 0.20:

IMPORTANT: Remove ALL items from the "Hall of Cloth" display area in the Armory or you'll lose them.  I am experimenting with more mannequins in a single cell to see if I can make it stable, so this room has completely changed.  If you fail to take this step and now can't find your armor, try using the console command 'COC _MH_CellarArmoryCloth01' to teleport into the old cell and grab your armor, then 'COC _MH_CellarArmoryCloth' to return to the new room.

This update also makes some changes to what was previously called the Trophy Room, which is the big room with the empty tables in the cellar.  To avoid confusion with the stuffed creature display room on the main floor, the one in the cellar will now be called the Private Museum.  Because this release makes changes to this room, I recommend you remove your items from this room before upgrading; while the upgrade probably won't bother items that you have placed on the concrete tables on the lower floor of the room, better safe than sorry, and it WILL affect items placed on the tables in the small raised chambers.

Steps for upgrading from 0.05 or lower to 0.10 or higher:

  • Save your game, backup your mod files to a save location.
  • Take all items out of the alcoholic storage bins in the cellar and in the master bedroom.
  • Take all items out of the long chest below the potions chests in the cellar's magic halls.
  • Save your game.
  • Copy the DragonLordEstate.esp file into your /Data folder.
  • Copy all files in the distribution folder named /Scripts into your /Data/Scripts folder.
  • Run Skyrim, and verify that all is working as expected.

Any items left in the aforementioned storage containers above will be lost if you fail to pull them before upgrading from 0.05 or lower.

====CREDITS====

Thank you VERY much to Bethesda for creating the single greatest video game franchise of all times (and basically making all other games except Fallout seem boring by comparison).

Also thanks to Bethesda for releasing the Creation Kit so that fanatics like me can expand this amazing fantasy world.

Finally, although none of his materials were used in this mod and I've never communicated with him, I want to thank DanTheGeek for inspiring me to start working on the Dragon Lord Estate by virtue of his own incredible Fallout mod, the 'Underground Hideout' ... he definitely understands the collector/pack rat mentality, and his mods are top notch.
