Well I like how this is working so I figured I'd upload it. Basically I made nighttime weathers darker by lowering the sunlight scale, reducing the brightness and increasing contrast. This tones down the bright parts, makes distant terrain more dark and nighttime overall a bit more realistic without being masochistically dark. I'm making this to work with a low contrast setting in Imaginator (or any other mod that lets you adjust the picture)

*UPDATE* 1.2 I added some contrast and slightly increased sunlight scale. This brings back a little bit of moonlight sometimes and the contrast helps lights stand out some (increasing saturation can also help make lighting more visible).

*UPDATE* 1.3
(I had made a mistake with 1.3 so if you downloaded it on 2-7-15 then redownload it so you have the correct version)
I redid all the settings from the defaults, this time I reduced brightness by 25%, increased contrast by 25% and reduced sunlight scale by 25%. I also applied these settings to the clear dark weathers. This might be approaching as good as it gets for using this technique, in my opinion this is much better than vanilla night time. For version 1.4 I'm gonna try to get the best eye adaptation settings.

If you're not already using Imaginator mod
and Simple Better Torch I recommend getting them and trying out the settings below and then tweak to your own liking. This mod is being designed to work with a low contrast setting in Imaginator. If you use it without lowering your contrast it might be too dark, or it might still be playable.

In my SkyrimPrefs.ini I have fGamma=1.1000

My current settings for Imaginator are:

Presets
Contrast -30 - -40
Brightness 5 - 10
Saturation 40 - 50

Magic Hour .1
Warm Desaturation .4
- .6

CINEMAGIC
Sunlight -2
Sky 2

TINTOR
blue 2
orange 1

This mod might require all the DLCs cause when I made it I had them all loaded and made changes to all the imagespaces I thought were relevant. If you're using Frostfall when you start freezing you might notice the brightness get bumped up because of that imagespace taking over I guess. This mod would conflict with any mod that modifies Sunlight Scale and Brightness of night time weathers so load it after anything that would. To uninstall just delete the .esp.
