About this mod

SEE WARNING BELOW!! This mod increases the "Weapon Adjust" value on all Vanilla "ArmorAddon" files to the maximum of 4.0, pushing sheathed weapons further away from the body to reduce clipping. It will also affect any custom armors that use the vanilla ArmorAddon files.

Max Weapon Adjust - Dirty Clipping Workaround for Vanilla And Replacers

WARNING - In case you don't read below the reason this is a "Dirty" workaround is because it affects all weapons and items when "sheathed" to the character and NPCs (unless you use the ring version).  This means that while this is intended to help with greatswords/axes on the back it will also affect other items such as one handed swords (making them stick out to the side).  This is why I added the "MWA Ring" option so that the effect can be added/removed at will depending what one is sheathing.

Introduction and Important Points

Hello, thank you for checking out my first mod ever, I hope it is useful.

First off let me start by saying that this wasn't an original idea, while I don't know the original source of this information I first saw it from user "panzersnapdragon1" in this thread: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/820929-if-it-doesnt-already-exist-weapon-clipping-issues/ where he described how it could be done. All I've done is the busy work of making it happen and packaging it up, hopefully saving others time and effort. Thanks to panzersnapdragon1 for the idea, I've tried to put it into action.

Mod Intent \ Features

This mod is intended for those bothered by greatswords and axes clipping through their character or character armor.

This mod seeks to alleviate the problem by increasing the "Weapon Adjust" value on ALL vanilla ArmorAddons for Skyrim, Dawnguard, and Dragonborn to the maximum possible of 4.0, it also contains options to affect less items.

Feature List (As of Current Version):

  • Selectable (via the FOMOD installer) options for Skyrim, Dawnguard and Dragonborn for when you want all vanilla Armor Addon files changed.
  • Daedric Only Option (This one will only set the Max Weapon Adjust value for Daedric armor)
  • Ring (Experimental) This adds a ring named "MWA Ring" to the game which can be used once added to inventory via the console. To add the ring you have to find the ID first, steps are below.  The ring has the added advantage of not affecting all NPCs (unless they wear it, if you don't tell them I won't).
  • Merged Plugin Options Available for Skyrim+Dawnguard, Skyrim+All DLCs and the Daedric Only + Ring Option for those that want it.  Plugins were merged using the "Merge Plugins" tool by matortheeternal located here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/69905

Getting And Using The Ring

1) Open the console by pressing the "~" key
2) type in "help MWA" without the quotes and press enter
3) A list of items that match "MWA" will appear, next to each is an item ID, these look like "012345ABC" or similar, write down the item ID next to the MWA Ring entry
4) Type in the command with the item ID you wrote in previous step "player.additem 012345ABC 1" without the quotes (remember to write in your item ID instead of my example as it will be different.
5) Provided the command was right, the "MWA Ring" should be added to your inventory.

Known Issues/Disclosures (TLDR)

A few users have reported that on some armors that have new armor pieces, such as underwear that this mod removes the underwear from those armor mods, consider this a warning if you use those mods.  The only one specifically mentioned so far was "Remodeled Armor for CBBE Bodyslide and TBBP HDT".  I do not intend to release a patch for this as I'm not sure I would even know how to fix it and I don't want to spend the time.

Because of the way Weapon Adjust works this will affect any items when sheathed, so one handed swords at your side will stick out more even though they may not need to. This might be distracting to some.

This mod may work with vanilla armor and vanilla armor replacers that use the vanilla armoraddon files in Skyrim and the DLCs. It will not work on custom armor unless you make the change yourself or I make patches.

This mod isn't perfect, if the body weight is too high, or the mesh too big you will still see
clipping. However it was helpful for me so I'm hoping it helps others.

Originally I made this for me and thought that it could be useful for others as well so I learned how to package it up and distribute on the nexus so that others may use it too.

A note about this being a "Dirty" mod. In my mind it is dirty because it is more about avoiding an issue than it is about actually fixing it. Fixing this problem is beyond my expertise, the best I can do is try to make it less noticeable.

Installation

Mod Organizer 2 (Best Option): Using Mod Organizer 2 follow the guided install wizard after adding the mod from file to choose the options you want.

Manual: Download the 7z and extract it. Inside you will see folders for the various options the mod provides. Inside each of these folders is an .esp, copy the desired ones for main files and expansion packs (or the daedric only / ring file) into your SkyrimData folder and make sure they are marked for loading.
