The defaultwithspec_n.dds used in this crashes SE. It's really a PNG, not a DDS, that's been renamed or improperly saved with Paint.Net v. 3.5.
It crashes SKYUI's 3D Render (item view) or Skyrim's lookup thing for it. Which crashes everything else, to the point that the game can't even save or exit properly since Papyrus itself just goes splat. It's not really a normal map, which is why the lighting is ridiculous on these.
The other textures included with this are fine. (cubemaps\shinyglass_e.dds & greynoise.dds)
It needs resaved if you use it on SE. LE was probably just ignoring it.
I love the screenshots but unfortunately I have the same problem as another person here. The gems look... well, like a primitive 3D object with a basic shader powdered with dust or something. I took a screetshot but I don't know how to add it to the comment. I would love to see my diamonds look like... well, diamonds. I'm also using a mod that changes the texture of the circlets "AEterna Circlets", Armored Circlets and that high definition jewelry mod, but when I installed this one, no replacements were needed so I assumed there were no conflicts. I saw a long discussion about opaque gems but I can't be bothered right now to do all that. I'm also using Enhanced Light and FX, seeing as lighting mods were mentioned. Is there a simple sollution? I'll take manual installation if some files are not supposed to be added, but if that's the case, tell me which one(s). Please, I kinda love the way the gems look in the provided pictures.
Hi! First of all, awesome mod! However, I had some problems because gems in my game looked awful after installing the mod but I think I've found a solution a while ago. I've just installed the mod via NMM and when it asked if overwrite I just picked 'No to all'. It's working now and I hope you guys can use it .
I have to say that I'm having the same issues. If I install only the meshes everything works. With the 3 textures from this mod I get opaque gems like on the pic posted by ClarkWasHere.
That's odd, I really can't think of a reason why this would be happening.
Do you use ENB? What about any light-altering mods? I don't see why they would cause this but you never know.
Try running only Gems of Skyrim with all other mods disabled.
Also, turn on water refraction in your .ini files if they are turned off. Again, I see no reason why this would cause any difference but it's worth a shot.
Maybe it has something to do with the .ini files. I can post mine here, I don't know if it will help though.
Lastly, can you guys search around you texture directory and see if you find a texture called white_em.dds? It should be under Data/Textures. That is the only texture the gems use that I did not alter or include, it should not be in your data directory as the game should be loading it from the BSA. If you do find it in your textures folder, then it could be causing this. Try deleting it and let me know if anything changes.
I found the problem. If I don't install the cubemap, the gems looks allright. If I install it, the gems are opaque. The thing is, I modded around a bit in the CK these days and everytime I loaded a plugin, I get this message:
I don't know what's causing this, the texture seems to be ok in Photoshop.
You guys overwrote files when you installed the mod, right? Shinyglass_e.dds is the texture that the gems use for reflection.
Basically because Skyrim doesn't support real reflection, the texture is overlaid on a cube, and shown on reflective surfaces. The texture is just a generic looking shine. I actually ended up using a picture of some clouds over the default texture because it looks similar but is much higher res.
However even if ShinyGlass_e.dds is present or not working, that doesn't have anything to do with the opacity of the gems. All it handles is the reflection image.
Hang on, did both you guys install Skysan4298's refracting diamond over my mod? His mod includes a different greynoise.dds texture. That might be alterting the looks of the gems, I will try some testing tomorrow.
@ chiknnwatrmln: I've tried it both ways, overwriting and non overwriting the textures. Overwriting = opaque, non overwriting = transparent. I do not use Skysan4298's refracting diamond.
If it's not a bother, could you try re-uploading the mod? Maybe Nexus got the files messed up or something during all this site maintenance, if the maintenance even affected the file servers.
I believe that the "sky" texture that you can see reflected in your mod's screenshots aren't in my gems. Other than that, the gems seem normal, refracting as they should (except for the amethyst, which in your screenshots, do not seem to refract.)
I'm guessing the shineyglass texture just isn't working for ablaze and I.
I'll reupload the mod, but textures don't not work for some people and work for others. Either they work or they don't, so I don't think it's a texture issue.
Those gems don't look right, infact they look downright terrible and something is not right.
Also the amethyst refracts just like all the other gems.
I think part of the problem here (perhaps THE problem) is that your custom cubemap isn't actually a true cubemap, it's just a single image. That's why Ablaze got that error when he opened the mod in the CK, 'cause since it's just a texture rather than a cubemap, the CK ignores it and thinks it's missing.
Probably, since I'm quite sure the custom cubemap is the issue here. Cubemaps are supposed to be a horizontal strip of six images instead of a single one, and saved using the Cubemap dds setting. Anything else the game engine just simply doesn't recognize.
I understand, but then why does the cubemap work perfectly for me? If it was an issue with the cubemap not being in the right format, wouldn't the same problem manifest itself for everybody?
Honestly, I'm not sure why it works for ya. Maybe opening the mod in the CK with the cubemap in place makes the engine realize it's not supposed to work, and just going right into the game avoids that. That's just my guess, Skyrim is just a weird inconsistent mess sometimes so who knows what the truth is regarding why it works for some, but not others, when by rights it shouldn't work at all.
The issue is caused by the site. Because it gets a ridiculous amount of traffic usually, it can't keep up, and when you download things they get corrupted, or when you upload things they get corrupted. The best way to insure that it's not corrupted when you upload, do it from 4-6 am, if you can - because around that time the site doesn't get AS MUCH traffic, as it does in the afternoon, or lunch time.
And I'd suggest those that are having problems, to re-download at those hours as well. That's what I did with another mod, that had some issues, and the problem solved itself.
@ DMagnus: The error in the CK will happen with all plugins I try to load, even with the Skyrim.esm alone. It's always at the stage where the CK load the resources from the textures and meshes folders.
@ ramakgaming: I do not believe it's an issue with the nexus traffic. I can open the cubemap in Photoshop without problems, it see it clearly on the screen. It's a dark sky with a shining through sun. The file is alright and not not corrupted.
And I had it downloaded 4 or 5, there was no differences ingame.
@ chiknnwatrmln: DMagus got a point there. Compare your cubemap with the vanilla one. Your one is a square, the vanilla one is a map of 5 or 6 squares in a row. Could be possible that the engine refuses to use the single square texture under some circumstances.
If you have the mod's custom cubemap installed, then yeah, the same error will crop up even if you open just the Skyrim.esm, not just with the mod. It's because the custom cubemap isn't in a format the CK recognizes and, since loose files are read before files contained in the BSA, it just shrugs and says the file's missing when it comes across it.
That's odd, because it's supposed to look like this:
What you've shown is the first part of the whole cubemap, somehow the rest of it got cut off, possibly when it got extracted from the BSA or something.
Even if the cubemap is all messed up that shouldn't cause opacity. The only thing the cubemap is responsible for is the reflection appearance, not refraction.
I actually removed the shinyglass_e, the gems shine, but still not clear, still looks like a molten blob of plastic, just shiny molten blob of plastic. The gem is still opaque and doesn't actually refract. Going to check nifscope and see if the all parts of visible gem are actually set with alpha properties. Could be just something missnamed in nifscope causing it.
Edit: Don't really see anything in nifscope that stands out as wrong, tried removing textures that came with mod and this is what I got http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/615041013415610540/5BDD0B09E46920755D180F52DEA2E715B9E7A3AF/ Going to try with just the n.dds texture and see if I get better look than that. >.>
Edit III: okay played with ENB settings, got it to refract in world, but still can't get it to look right in inventory, still opaque and gritty in inventory. http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/615041013415899419/F714475078DC2648F3241BC2923944D195A63922/
Sidenote: GIMP doesn't open cubemaps like PS does. Instead of arranging the various sides horizontally, they're just layered on top of each other, making dealing with cubemaps in GIMP kind of difficult.
I have the same issue as a lot of other people but I'm going to try temporarily replacing the cubemap with one I know will look similar as well as the particle fix suggested in the mod descriptions and we'll see what happens.
EDIT: after replacing the cubemap and doing the suggestion in the description they're looking great. Hangin out with Gamwich's soulgems:
I really like your textures. Unfortunately, I have found a mistake in one of them. Defaultwithspec_n.dds texture file is a PNG file with changed Extensions to DDS. Convert it to dds. (click to enlarge)
The only time these will refract is when you have them displayed on a table or they're out in the open. Sadly, in your inventory, they will not refract. The author has stated this in his description. Hopefully Skysan4298 or someone else experienced in this sort of modding will come along and fix this. Also, do what his 'Update' on the description says and hopefully your problem will be fixed/answered. That is, unless, you don't plan on giving it another try and reinstalling.
Hi, I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. I, along with several others, have spent hours investigating to no avail. I honestly have no idea what the issue is, I have the problem with the gems appearing opaque once in a while but it seems that restarting the game solves the problem.
I have SMIM and Improved Gemstone Dragon Claws, but the issue is present even without them. As far as I know the precious gems are entirely independent from soul gems so that should not be an issue either.
The sporadic nature of this bug makes it very difficult to figure out and I don't really work on mods any more so I can't be too much of a help. If you want to investigate and come upon a conclusion, please let me know.

SSE Nif Opt's texture scan doesn't really report this error properly.
How do the other gems look?

The flawless diamond texture seems to keep switching back and forth from a shiny texture to the refraction texture.
I was wondering if you had those installed.

I don't have ENBs, or lighting mods, and I've disabled all my mods and tried it, no dice.
My settings have water refractions on and stuff.
Damn. This is a hard bug to crack, but here's the hard question I have to ask,
What video card do you have chik and Ablaze? I have nvidia, and I fear that could be the problem.
Did you try the things I suggested? Was white_em.dds there?
I don't know what's causing this, the texture seems to be ok in Photoshop.
Also, ablaze, what is your video card?
Basically because Skyrim doesn't support real reflection, the texture is overlaid on a cube, and shown on reflective surfaces. The texture is just a generic looking shine. I actually ended up using a picture of some clouds over the default texture because it looks similar but is much higher res.

@ ClarkWasHere:
It's an Nvidia card.
See my last post, I edited something in.
I've tried it both ways, overwriting and non overwriting the textures. Overwriting = opaque, non overwriting = transparent.
I do not use Skysan4298's refracting diamond.
I'll post my .ini files in a bit, but I'm stumped as to why this only happens to a few people.

Regardless, maybe if he removes shinylass_e.dds it will be fixed.
And I'd suggest those that are having problems, to re-download at those hours as well. That's what I did with another mod, that had some issues, and the problem solved itself.

I opened up the default shinyglass_e.dds, it's just a 32x32 pixel square texture.
It looks the same even in GIMP.

Does this mod conflict with SMIM, True Circlet Gems, Improved Gemstone Dragon Claws (I don't see why it would), or any soul gem changers?
