Night Eye Overhaul v1.3

Ever wondered why Khajiit or Vampire eyes only work in the dark for 30 seconds? Or why adjusting eyesight to low light conditions is so noisy? Or even why the mages of Tamriel have let the Night Eye spell & enchantment go the same way as the mages guild?

Then this mod might be exactly what your looking for!

What this mod does:
- Removes time limit for Khajiit or Vampire Night Eye powers.
- Removed the now unnecessary Night Eye effect from Vampires “Embrace of Shadows” power.
- Removes the blue tint present in the vanilla Night Eye.
- Removes the persistent blur from screen edges.
- Removes sound from Night Eye power.
- Adds Night Eye as an apprentice level spell that will dual cast and increase you illusion skill.
- Adds Night Eye spell tome.
- Adds Night Eye scroll.
- Adds 4 Night Eye potions.
- Adds enchanted jewelry and helmets.
- Adds learn-able Night Eye enchantment.
- All items added to the game will turn up at vendors and as random loot.

Optional Files:
- Choice of 8 colour tints and/or radial blur to replace the default colourless Night Eye.
- Plugin to increase the brightness of the mods default Night Eye effect.
- Plugin to remove the duration from the Night Eye spell.
- Plugin to add a longer duration expert level spell.
- Plugin to double the duration of Night Eye potions.
- Plugin to double the duration of Night Eye scrolls.

Installation Instructions:

If updating from v1.0.3 or earlier, the old version of the mod MUST be uninstalled and a clean save made without the mod before installing the latest version.

Automatic Installation: (Recommended)
Download and install using Nexus Mod Manager.

Manual Install:
Copy the contents of the “Required Files” folder to your “SkyrimData” folder and enable both “Night Eye Overhaul.esm” and “Night Eye Overhaul.esp” via the Skyrim launcher or your preferred mod manager.

Optional Plug-ins:
All option plug-ins are contained within the “Optional Files” folder. To Install plug-ins copy the required plug-in(s) from “Optional Files” to “SkyrimData” and enable via the Skyrim launcher or your preferred mod manager.

To use an optional tint, radial blur or brighter Night Eye, copy the required plug-in from the “Optional FilesNight Eye Effects” folder. Use only one of these files at a time.

ENB Users:

It has been brought to my attention (Thank you to mihzvol wuriar) that there is an issue with some ENB series configurations causing the to Night Eye effect to stop working. After testing I found this happens with the vanilla Night Eye as well, It is not a bug with Night Eye Overhaul.

If this does not solve the issue please make sure the problem occurs without any ENB series mods installed before reporting it as and issue.


This mod will probably conflict with other mods that directly change the Khajiit/Vampire Night Eye powers, Vampire invisibility or edit one of the few leveled lists used by this mod. Other than these exceptions, this mod should be 100% compatible with every other mod available.

For compatibility with mods that do effect leveled lists there should be no problems using Wrye Bash to merge the lists. In theory ReProccer should work as well, however this has not been tested.

Release Notes:

With the v1.3 release there are no longer any known issues/bugs that I am aware of. The only issue that has been repeatedly reported is now fixed and has been fine with the testing I have done. As such, I don't currently plan to add any new features to this mod and v1.3 is intended to be the final release. The most I plan to do now is patch the mod should any major bugs be discovered.

Update History:

- Fixed flicker when disabling Night Eye power.
- Tweaked settings on default Night Eye effect, less colour loss caused by changes made for compatibility with CoT.
- Added a NMM scripted installer.
- Added plug-ins for 1.5x and 2.5x brightness
- Removed plug-ins for 4x and 5x as these were overly bright. (4x and 5x from v1.2 still work if anyone really wants them)
- Changed the Night Eye effect so it will now work with Climates of Tamriel installed.
- Tweaked the optional plug-ins for brighter Night Eye and added plug-ins for 2x and 4x brightness.
- Re-done mod from ground up, now uses an ESM file so plug-in are easier to make.
- Added enchanted circlet and enchanted helmets.
- Added plug-in to add expert level Night Eye spell.
- Added plug-ins to enable radial blur.
- Minor name changes to avoid name conflicts on favorites menu.
- Added choice of 8 colour tints to replace the default colourless Night Eye.
- Changed duration of potions in for optional plug-in from 15/30/60/120 to 30/60/90/120 seconds .
- Added optional plug-in to double duration of Night Eye scroll.
- Changed base cost of spell to be closer to other apprentice level illusion spells.
- Changed duration of potions from 15/30/60/120 to 15/30/45/60 seconds.
- Changed value of spell tome, potions & enchanted jewellery.
- Some minor alterations to Night Eye visual effect settings.
- Added optional plug-in to remove duration from Night Eye spell.
- Added optional plug-in to restore the duration of Night Eye potions to 15/30/60/120 seconds.
- Fixed persistent blur still showing with Night Eye powers.
