As you try to decide whether to take the hand or not, everything around you seems to interrupt. You hesitate, and now you realize that she is gone. But how? She was standing right there. The space she had occupied was now awash with the sea of market-goers. You search for her desperately, you don't even know why but you do it anyways. Everywhere you look you see nothing but the waves of people. As you start to make your way through the crowd you hear a faint cry. The cry is distant, distant over the horizon of the crowd, but loud enough to stand out against the deafening chatter of the cities people. “Stop that woman!” the voice said. You know not from which direction it came, but you can tell from the authority of the voice that it was from one of the city guard. Completely lost in the crowd now, you seek a higher vantage point. As you reach the top of the inclined street you look back. There, on the rooftop. You see a figure standing on the highest tower of the cathedral. You look on through the rain at the mysterious woman. How long had it been raining? It didn't matter. As the figure descended down out of view, you can't help but wonder:
What could have been?
