Stefran Grey, the Winter Wolf.
His backstory is that he was a member of an elite mercenary unit called the Widowmakers (think The Black Company by Glen Cook). Just prior to the Skyrim storyline they were in the employ of the rebellion. They were betrayed, ambushed and almost completely wiped out by the Legion, the survivors dispersed to the four corners of Tamriel. Stefran himself went to Skyrim, and was caught crossing the border (leading to the Skyrim storyline).
