great twist to the beginnings. Sure your going ( I know your already done, just a bit behind on getting to the story) to have a much different tale to tell of Grim's time in the land, looking forward to it.
Still trying to decide if I want to pick up on Grim's stories or start a new storyline with Marrok (would also like to finish Kavel's but impossible to tell every story that comes into my head).
Can't wait to see them (hopefully) meet Kavel!
Excellent!
Have been trying out many of the Sombers here and overall they don't look bad.
I'm surprised there was enough people on the ship to hold grim down during his fits, With Grims strength I imagine Losti & Eric got a few minor bruises for their trouble, but I'm sure they wouldn't mind. I think for most people waking up seeing the blue image of Losti as the first thing they saw would send them back to sleep.
Good job too for Losti''s calming influence as that could have brought about quite some panic on the ship. I don't think Losti's action on the dock's either helped much but a bit of fear help shut those bureaucrats up.
Interesting Grim meets his grandfather Hircine in the Retching Netch, Strange seeing a Daedric Prince baby sitting a cub, he has his reasons I guess and nice that Kavel gets a mention. I get the feeling Kavel might get a welcome meeting with the Big dude.
Wonderful work Jon great story telling
Those ships are surprisingly understaffed - must be cutting back. Grim is extremely strong but Losti is the same build so between him and Erik they managed but only cause Grim was unconscious and not actively fighting.
Losti is a bit of a rebel and hates authority figures (hence why he did so poorly with Molag and much better with Sanguine) so all his buttons got pushed on the dock.
There is a reason why Hircine is watching the cub. Would the actual Hircine do it (TES version) certainly not. Hircine in Grim's universe has been through a lot of powerful influences and experiences that has somewhat broadened his way of thinking and changed him somewhat.
That being said one thing I try to stress, even with my own version of lore, is that Gods (Aedra, Daedra, what have you) are so far above humans that they basically have to "baby talk" when dealing with them. They tend to mimic human emotions and ideas in an attempt to communicate with them. Since it is impossible for us to even know how they think (since it is simply beyond our ability to comprehend) I write them on the human level since that is the only way we can see them - and the only way they can interact with us.
I suppose if I made the attempt I would say a tiny sliver of Hircine's awareness focused briefly on events in Solstheim and nudged a few quantum variables, studied the space-time continuum, and exerted an infinitesimal amount of force towards the thoughts patterns of some of the mortals in a direction he wanted it go. But that isn't nearly as much fun to write as what I did.
As with Deadra I'm the same with Nocturnal I don't think that her real form we see and I tend to make her more human to make the story. I use Lore as a starting point but not something I care that much about. As far as lore goes the Lore Nocturnal would never have had any interest in Elvina which would make a pretty dull story.
But that isn't nearly as much fun to write as what I did.
Also I don't mean it is more fun for other people (either way of doing it). The "I" is meant to say I, personally, find it more fun to write Princes with human tendencies (I didn't mean to imply other people would find them more fun to write that way - I am only talking about myself). Whether or not other people enjoy reading that way I don't know.
which went well over my poor brain so I only understood the first word " I " of that sentence
On the plus side we are both in agreement we like our Prince's a tad more human. Much like out own gods in ancient days (Norse, Roman, Greek, Celtic ... talk about a bunch of cranky over-emotional deities!)
The sight of Raven Rock certainly were unusual and new to Erik, him being used the small villages and thatched homes of Skyrim. Sounds like Avrein has gotten himself in a little trouble with Grim with the way he introduced him, he is sure to be teased quite often about that. I liked that nod to Dannee's effect on the isle with that bit of life added to that city among the ash, the inn being busy. Hircine is not as good at hiding his presence as he thinks especially from Wolfgar and Grim, him always appearing as a human with quite the stature is not the best way not to draw attention though I suspect he can't help it, it being part of his nature as an alpha wolf. Looks like the old can't quite help keeping an eye on things. I am very curious to see how Grim and Kavel will run into each other and how their meeting will go. A very enjoyable chapter, Jonathan
I like to show a team effort with this group as it is something that many of his enemies simply don't understand. Despair certainly did not. The Princes don't (except Hircine) as they are so powerful they tend to not need help. But his friends is one of Grim's strengths.
I was also thinking Erik, who spent his entire life in Rorirkstead (possible a trip or two to Whiterun or Dragonbridge) would be all wide eyed at a Dunmer settlement.
Lol you are correct on Hircine - very hard for him to appear smaller in stature then Grim since he and Grim have been rubbing ego's ever since Grim was a teenager. He needs to get over that if he really wants to be disguised!
Thanks again for the comment and glad you enjoyed the story. Things should start to slowly pick up next chapter - although less action packed then the Despair storyline since this is more about freeing the dragon souls then an epic battle scene.
Haha couldn't help but to laugh at the banter between Grim and Hircine at the inn..and Wolfie being called a traitor ! Rumperrrrrrr he's so adorable!!! ..and always taking a nap too ! haha. Sound like Grim will not only have to find a way to free the dragonsouls while he's on Solstheim but also find Kavel for Hircine..things got a bit more complicated indeed !
Masterfully done dear !
Losti still has a little crush on Grim so he like to take advantage when he can lol. Erik has learned to go with it but he does keep an eye on the blue Daedra. As for Avrein - he is what he is and Grim deals with his attitude and sarcasm because deep down he knows Avrein is a good soul and a loyal friend.
My stories have been a little shorter as I have focused on dialogue and a bit less on detail ... will see if that continues or not. Trying to balance enough things to explain what is happening without do my epic long stories (unless it is needed for the story).
Hence the chat with Hircine was too the point ... but then Hircine really isn't known to be a chatty guy like Sam. More to the point. The unsaid message from Hircine is that he is here because of Kavel and would "appreciate" Grim helping out. Perhaps not a direct command but a strongly asked for favor lol.
The bit about Avrein making the title "Second Councilor" sound like something you scrape off of your boot was hilarious, and then threw out more impressive titles like Arch-Mage and Mage Lord. Although I wonder when the "tall, stupid one" comment will come back to bit him
Good to see the effort of the Lady Dragonborn has made the place more upbeat. I guess having your primary source of income return and those threats dealt with would do that. Wolfgar the traitor giving up Hirsine, and his interaction with Rumper, were funny as well. Wonder how surprised Grim is that Hirsine was not actually there for him.
Wonder if we will get some Alpha werebear vs wearwolf going on when Grim and Kavel first meet....again, great work and look forward to the next.
If you read my reply to Jess you can see why I think a Daedra might possibly be accepted with some reservations if you treat the TES world like it treats the player.
Not to dismiss Kavel to easily but in a fight against Grim it would be no contest, even if Kavel is a true-blooded werebear with Hircine's favor (he is not, however, Hircine's champion ... which might tilt the odds a bit). Kavel is pure mortal and his only special ability is being a werebeast. Grim, on the other hand, is Fenrir's champion and assumes Fenrir's avatar when he assumes beast form - which is very powerful.
Course that doesn't mean they will get along either so if you mean more ego butting and posturing ... possibly. I suspect more on Kavel's side as Grim has mastered his temper pretty well and is fairly laid back.
