      i am aware of that, but a crossguard would break the design, also there are many fantasy daggers and shortswords without any kind of crossguard, take for example elven weapons that aren't necesary impractical, and if you loose your grip your fingers will end up (at least at first) in the back non-bladed part and the curvy non-bladed part of the front side, so not much cutting imo.
