I like using archways as ..well, I'm not sure of the artistic term, but I love to use them as a framing of sorts. The concept of automatically stepping through the arch guides your eyes through the arch to see the focus of the image? (In this case, the trees and the closed gate at the end of the image).
I don't know if that made sense but...that is why I feature arches in my images quite a bit.
