About this image

As the picture shows, this is something I've been trying to fix for the longest time. Sadly, after having tried almost everything, it's still very much there (and just became a bit worse due to the color mismatch). As such, I'm wondering if maybe someone else has encountered this issue and/or knows what may be causing the problem?

I'm dying to finally be able to make some normal shots without having to cover up Luna's hands. :/

Thanks in advance!

Are you using a custom texture path (custom race)? If so, your custom textures are only being applied to body parts that don't have anything equipped. The ancient nord armor mesh your character is wearing includes a body mesh and its texture path is likely different from the one defined by your hand mesh - it most likely uses the default texture path. Due to the fact that there is an obvious neck seam as well, I suspect this is the issue.

To fix it, you must either copy your textures to the default path or edit the paths in the armor mesh to direct to your custom textures.

I use a custom race (Ningheim), but the problem isn't the armor since without clothes (or whatever other clothing I use) the hand seam (and slight neck seam) is still very much there.

As for copying the textures to the default path, how exactly do I do that? Is it the character/female folder (in which all normal races use the same textures?) because I already did that but only the normal races work fine.

If the problem persists when nothing is equipped, or if default races are not affected, then the problem resides in the body part meshes (head, hands, body). Check that each mesh has the same texture path and the following settings in Nifskope (under NiTriShape):

      BSNumUVSets 1
      HasNormals no

Skyrim uses model space normals for skin and tangent space for objects like weapons and armor. Some body part meshes included in body replacers have incorrectly configured meshes. If these settings are not consistent across adjoining body parts (head/body, body/hands) there will be an obvious seam.

I will definitely check it out right away even though it's all still a bit difficult for me to understand, haha!

I don't use the Ningheim race but I just checked the UNP meshes that are packaged with that mod, and the body and hands meshes use different settings for BSNumUVSets and HasNormals. I suspect this is your problem. As for your neck seam, it's likely related to a difference between the mesh settings of your head mesh (which appear to be correct in the case of the head mesh used by the Ningheim race) and whatever body mesh is included in your armor/clothing mesh.

I did a quick check and I opened femalehands_1 and femalebody_01 (from the ningheim meshes) for example and it showed me this:

BS NUM UV Sets: Value = 4097
      HasNormals: yes

The femalefeet_01 showed me what you have:
      BSNumUVSets 1
      HasNormals no

So there is something wrong there I assume! What should I be doing now? =P

All body parts should use these settings:

      BSNumUVSets 1
      HasNormals no

To edit BSNumUVSets, double-click on the number field and enter the correct number, then hit 'enter.'
HasNormals is a toggle, so double-clicking on it will toggle between yes and no. When you're done, save the mesh - make sure you make the same edits to the _0 and _1 meshes for body, hands and feet.

I changed all the bodypart meshes to the same settings but it appears the problem is still there.. :/

Did you change the _0 and _1 meshes for each body part (hands, body, feet)? If so, can you find the texture paths used by each mesh? In Nifskope, the path can be found here:

      NiNode
      --NiTriShape
      ----BSLightingShaderProperty
      ------BSShaderTextureSet

In the lower pane, expand "Textures" and you'll see the paths. Make sure they are all pointing to the same files across your body part meshes. In your case, they should all be directed to the textures installed by the Ningheim race mod. If one of them is pointing to the default location (\data\textures\actors\character\female) then that would be the issue.

If that does not fix the issue then I would look at your textures. You may have mismatched textures, either diffuse, normal or specular. You can back up your current textures and try installing a complete, matched set to the same location to see if that improves things. You can't mix and match textures from different mods and expect to avoid seams unless you do some work on them in Photoshop or a similar application.

I checked the paths and they were all perfectly the way they should be:

      actors\character\Ningheim\female\femalebody_1.dds (example).

And I don't think the textures are the problem since even if I use the normal Ningheim textures (that come with the installation itself) it always ends up with the weird vanilla hands. + Every follower that I download and add to my game has the same hands.

I really have no idea anymore what it could be... =P

A couple of things that you can try:

Check the meshes and textures in the default paths for inconsistencies - BSNumUVSets and HasNormals for the meshes and verify that the textures are all from one source - again, I'm referring to the default textures, not those used by Ningheim (which are SG as I recall).

      Default paths:
\data\meshes\actors\character (check subfolders for body meshes)
      \data\textures\actors\character\female

Use TES5Edit to load all of your mods and check whether another installed mod has defined an alternate path for the hands mesh.

If even followers are affected, it may be tied to files residing in your default paths for meshes and/or textures since most follower mods refer to these files if they don't include their own.

I've tried and checked everything but the issue still seems to be there. Either I'm an idiot for not seeing something (which I doubt after my 1000+ tries) or this is a bit more difficult than I thought...

Guess for now I'll just have to live with it. Or maybe one day I'll go for a full new install with a new character. =)

Thanks for all your help, though!

    Thanks for the responses guys!

    Some extra information:

Luna is from the Ningheim race which has it's own set of textures for the whole body including hands. Yet, whatever I do or whatever I install, the hands are always vanilla with a huge color mismatch. At the moment I use RealGirls textures for Luna which work perfectly for the head and body, but the hands still show up like this.

Other important information (which might identify the problem for others) is that whatever follower I download in the game, the hands of those followers (mostly have unique textures etc.) are also the same as Luna's: Vanilla and mismatched colors.

Interesting to note is that the main races (Nord/Breton etc.) who also use RealGirl textures DO have the right textures to them. So I figured it's a problem with the meshes or maybe the path to which the ningheim race/custom races want to access the other textures. However, I don't understand why the body and head work perfectly, but the hands remain 'broken'. It's a difficult issue for sure.

@LadyofChaos: The problem is still there even if Luna has no clothes on or custom clothes. It sadly isn't because of the vanilla items. However, I'll definitely try it out and see if it might do something! Thanks!

@Maplevolt: Sadly this issue was there before I used the body tattoo (or any tattoo's) on Luna. It's been there since the very beginning of my character.. :/

@ Rentani: I changed the hand meshes many times to check what happens (like new UNP hand meshes etc). I figured it should atleast change the shape/quality somewhat, but they always stay the same (vanilla).

Maybe something with the body tattoo - happened to me. As a test, have you tried a body texture that also included hand textures to see if it goes away? (save/backup your current character textures)
But wait for someone with more experience to chime in.

Are you using a different hand mesh? I remember that happened to me when I used a different hand mesh
