“Luck, at last. I met a carriage heading to Markarth. The driver mentioned being willing to let me join for the ride, if I’ll agree to serve as a guard for the trip.”

“Good news, we reached Markarth without any trouble other than a few roving wolves. Bad news, the Nords still won’t allow Khajiits into their precious cities, not even for shelter against the rain that started falling shortly after sunrise.

“I still can’t remember why I ever came to this moons-forsaken land, but it had better be a really good reason.

“Apparently, there’s a Khajiit caravan camp down by the river. Maybe they can help.”

“One of the caravan’s guards, J’renn, remembers me. According to him, we’ve met a few times before, back when he was guarding another caravan near Riften. I wish I remembered that, because the friendliness he displays towards me is a bit unsettling. Did we know each other that well?

“We were at least close enough that my amnesia alarmed him. He insisted that I get checked by the caravan’s healer, Ma’randru-jo. He wouldn’t let go until the healer confirmed my assertion that I was fine. Well, minus my memory, but fine.

“He then asked the caravan leader, Ri’saad, to give me preferential prices for whatever I had to sell or buy. The fact that I once helped one of his caravans repel a bandit attack (according to J’renn) convinced Ri’saad to agree to J’renn’s request, but only for this one time. I managed to sell a few things (those Thalmor items brought no unwelcome questions, thank the moons!), and in return I got a change of clothes, a tent, a bedroll, and some food.

“I must go to Riften. If J’renn’s right, then I used to be a regular around those parts. Maybe I can actually find some answers there. I’ll leave at first light tomorrow.”
