Loved the images - what a great job with all the fire and smoke. You did a great job putting the shots together with the story. Liked how Rathe was a slice and dice machine - really cool. My kind of guy - very capable.
It was rather touching him and Fleur making that jump together. Reminded me of Indian Jones! Off to read the next chapter ...
Thanks for the comments dear and glad you enjoyed the chapter. I'm still slightly unsure writing action; I always feel like i'm overdescribing and 'slowing' the action down but if you were glued to your seat it must've been ok.
Cheers hon.
I've got a strong feeling that this disastrously-deadly clusterf--k was yet another scheming little ploy of Astrid's that, THIS TIME finally backfired in her face in GRAND fashion. ^^
If so, OH, does this massive Murphyism EVER look good on her!!
Why do I suddenly get the suspicion that she's near-death somewhere in the "Sanctuary-no-more" ^^, just a few moments away from reaping her "reward" in the Void for all the "nice" things she's done in her miserable life?? ^^
I particularly liked how you gave a perfectly seamless, rational explanation as to how Arnie could have been taken down by the "P.O". relatively quickly like that, by being previously-weakened by the wounds he got from Cicero with little time to completely heal, then overwhelmed by sheer numbers.
These three seem to make a good team in a fight....together they can and HAVE taken out groups of enemies larger in number than them. ^^
Hopefully, all the P.O. infesting this "Sanctuary-no-more" have been cleared, and now without further interference, they can look around for and deal with the "BIQ" or B*tch-in-Question, or whatever may be left of her, search for any more possible survivors, and salvage whatever useful things they might find still intact....as this place is now useless to everyone.
Cicero will no doubt be delighted at Arnbjorn's death, never mind Astrid's possible demise as well, and he'll now have more people to keep him company in the "Old-New" Sanctuary of Dawnstar from now on.
Endorsed.
Warm and kind thanks, Jess, and cheers, dear!
I had to stray slightly from the DB storyline with this and the next chapter (some things just weren't going to work in my world as they appeared in Bethesda's so I hope purists weren't / aren't upset).
I enjoyed happily hacking through the P.O both in the game and in the story as I never liked that group of soldiers much; they seem too... secret police... somehow. But I will admit that I was a little sad about seeing some of the DB die. I know, they're bad... but I kinda like the bad guys (hence why my main character is an assassin himself ! )
Anyway, thanks for your support and comments hon and hope you like the next chapter too!
Seems the sanctuary was quite the unpleasant place to fight, smoke and ash filling its halls. Did not slow the swing of Rathe's blades through as the soldiers learned. Seem Rathe won't have to deal with Arnbjorn's anger, his wounds and the soldiers' blades putting an end to him. I really like that tension and intensity you created once again as they tried to find a way out, a leap into cold water their only chance, a wonderfully weaved chapter, Jess ^^
Like AmadanBezerk, I suspect this may have involved one of Astrid's schemes gone very wrong. But if she survives the fire, I have a feeling she won't survive Rathe. (Or Darius, for that matter. He and his father may have had their differences, but Darius clearly still loved him.)
Nice job on the fight descriptions. Rathe, Fleur, and Darius made a good team through this -- as did Nazir once they caught up to him.
Good screenshots as always, too.
Nicely done -- I can hardly wait to see how this ends!
You won't have to wait much longer; I hope to have the whole story up on the Nexus within the next week... if all goes to plan!
Nice one Jess!
Thanks sweetie!
I can't say that I feel sorry for assassins, they kinda brought it upon themselves, or rather Astrid's unparalleled ambitions of taking such contracts did that to her dark family... while by the twist of irony the one who fulfilled the contact was not there at the time of ambush... though Rathe has suffered afterwards due to his wound and that not to mention that he could have lost Fleur to that arrow! I am so glad that they both made it out alive so far and finally Darius proved to be useful with his magic, stopping to be an annoying companion.
The slaughter in Dark Brotherhood was masterfully depicted, you did great since that ash and dreary atmosphere was almost palpable as Rathe, Fleur and Darius have made their way through sanctuary. I guess Rathe was slightly sad to see Veezara go, while I doubt he had any feeling of loss seeing that old furball Arnbjorn has died in fighting. Darius was also shaken badly since his father to whom he always fought so hard to prove himself had gone without any chance of saying even the last word... truly, a devastating day for Darius.
Interesting that Nazir managed to stay alive for so long, but that proves his fighting skills and I wonder how he and Rathe along with Fleur and Darius are going to get out and what they will find if they escape, since there was no sight of Gabriella or Babbette and Astrid... who might have escaped, being a snaky viper that she is (I know that in game she didn't but I am so looking forward to see your take on whole situation!
Thank yo very much for sharing your awesome work!
Thank you for your comments and observations; i have (and continue to) enjoyed and felt comforted by your support throughout Rathe's tale! It's so heartening to read comments from people about the characters I've created that I love so much and find that others out there love (or hate) them too!
Thanks hon.
all three working as a team was awesome to see
Tee hee, thanks dear!
