I really like the young Grim, this child of the wilds, taking care of the animals, sharing a connection with the wolves (why doesn't it surprise me? ). I also adore the very natural way you described the wolves - the alfas changing, the older ones being too slow and advanced in age to follow the pack. You must really love animals, my friend. This piece reminds me a little bit of J. O. Curwood's style.
Shots are, as always, fabulous, what else can I say?
Wonderful work!
Will have to read up on him a bit more, thanks for the idea
Glad you enjoyed this chapter and how I depicted young Grim and his relations to animals. My fondness for animals, which I admit is probably heavily slanted towards fuzzy mammals, is just their lack of human duplicity and twisted violence. Not that animals are devoid of all bad traits by any means but it is on a different scale than humans.
I really enjoyed reading this chapter where Alfrún immerses us in the past with Grim. Velulfr is a very good man although he does not show his feelings, even if Grim is much stronger than other human beings, Velulfr taught him many things like fighting and it is thanks to him that he is a great warrior today. But he also learn him the most importantly, live with nature and animals, while respecting them, he is a great man and I hope Grim can meet him again soon.
I really enjoyed your description of Grim spending time with wolves and the small Snowpawn, very good times in the company of wolves and large forests of Skyrim, I understand better why Grim appreciates the REAL good things that life can offers to us.
I found it sad to see Tundra and Frostfire taking age, not being able to go hunting and exploring the woods, at least they spent their last days in happiness. This part make remember me about your beautiful Glacier and the adorable Malinois Shepherd Priska of my brother who sadly left us too, her advanced age not offered her a dog life worthy of her...
This is the first time I attended the sleep of a dog to the vet and it is horribly sad and difficult, I understand better what you have to endure.
To return to a less sad topic, I also very much appreciate your description of the battle of Grim and Snowpawn against the spider, they have shown great courage and it seems that Hircine knew Grim longer than I thought and he saved his life, a proof that every Daedra's are not evil.
Great work my friend
Hircine is more neutral in my mind, closer to a force of nature. Sure there is the whole "hunting humans" thing which probably puts him on the negative side of the line for many people (I know it would be if I was one of the ones being hunted lol ) but on the other hand he isn't overly malicious (like say Molag Bal or some of the others) and he has a sense of honor and fairness. Also I think since he had Fenrir, and later Grim, he has become a bit more ... understanding ... about hunting humans for sport. At least in Grims world that is the case
In regards to the loss of your day - that is very sad and indeed taking them to the vet is one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life, so I have a lot of sympathy for you and your brother. However I will PM you on that subject.
(Brilliant work on that scene BTW)
I am loving this back story! The great thing about being so far behind is getting caught up all at once!
Snow Paw is soooooo freaking cute!!!
Epic chapter!
I haven't said much about your images in my last few comments (too caught up in the story) so I'll say now; beautiful scenes that enhance the writing so wonderfully dear.
