About this image

Last weekend I decided to sit down and finally learn 3d on my own (using Millenia's quite useful Youtube tutorial). I've wanted to learn 3d for quite some time, an interest that blossomed up again once Skyrim got released and I started releasing mods. I've had quite a bunch of ideas, but nothing I could do anything about as I lacked even the basic 3d modeling skills.

Four days of intensive 3d modeling, and a few original models later and I am now a fairly decent 3d modeler if I should say so myself (of course, within what's reasonable considering I only have a weeks experience and only have modeled easy to medium complex models). But I get good results and I'm here to show you!

This here is my rendition of one variation of a realistic viking axe - this specific bearded type is quite useful to rip shields out of your enemies hand. This is the high-poly model, the low-poly model have yet to be finished then I just need to do the UV mapping, then bake the normals. This is only one version, I intend to do several versions with different looks, limited within what is true to viking design.

Once the UV mapping is done and the normals have been baked I'll start work on textures and then figure out how to import this badboy into Skyrim.

Enjoy

I need this... There's no simple axes, this one I must have.  Frokir isn't complete without one.

100% agree! After 5 years of skyrim nobody made good quality simple axes! WTH?!

There are barely if none, realistic looking viking axes, this one looks simple, plain and does its job..

Beautiful, but in my opinion is better if you add some leather wraps to the handle for a better grip.

Might do, although this is based on a real axe I own. But it may make it look less plain.
