This is how I feel when people look at my pictures but don't comment, im someone posting pictures on the internet and as such am attention starved, comment on what I bring you, and I'll be happy. Nuff said.

You have to understand that not everyone may have the time then and there to comment on your picture, so instead you may receive an endorsement if they enjoyed your image. The endorsement button is good in that sense is that if you would like to show appreciation for the author's efforts at that moment, then you can simply click the green button and come back whenever you have the time to draft a comment.
I understand that you may require more attention, there are many people who do. My advice is to be patient, as with a lot things, you have to learn to be patient.
Remember, the image share is in good fun (I think). Just share what you like and if people like it they'll acknowledge it, if they don't keep trying!
