The Life and Adventures of Aeja Deersong
Chapter Four: Frozen Tears
Silence. Cold. The icy sea crushing the "Sea Wolf"
Aeja swims as fast as she can to reach the surface. The icy sea embracing her, her vision stinging with salty water and her lungs screaming for air.
Aeja breaks to the surface, breathing cold air that burns her. The sound invades her ears.
Aeja climbs on top of "Sea Wolf" trembling. She feels feverish, curls and tries to clear her head.
Trembling, Aeja raises her head and looks at the distance, there is a figure...
... lying on a slab of ice. "FATHER!" echoes around the ice. Her echo sounds like it is mocking her.
The cold water welcomes Aeja as she slides in.
Aeja swims as fast as she can. Her wet clothes are heavy, dragging her under into the icy silence.
Aeja climbs onto the icy slab and looks at her father. Thogar is cold and still, but not from the icy waters. "Father?" whispers Aeja.
"Papa, wake up..." A tear forms on her eyes and freezes on her young face. Aeja stands still looking at her father waiting for him to react.
Young Aeja lies next to him. A great sadness envelops her. The wind blows mournfully.
"Papa, wake up please, we are safe..." Her eyes are blurry with tears.
Aeja holds her father as she cries silently, memories of younger years flashing in her mind.
The wind howls like a lone wolf. Her clothes cling wetly, her young body trembling viciously. A sun ray reflects on her father's ancestral dagger made of Stalhrim. Aeja slowly opens her eyes.
Slowly and painfully she leans over her father's dagger.
She picks up the Stalhrim dagger, as the cold grips her tighter and tighter in its frozen embrace.
As she holds the Stalhrim dagger against her chest, Aeja whispers,"I promise you father, I'll return it home."
"Goodbye papa. May the All-Maker guide you." Tears run down her face as she whispers, "we will meet again."
Aeja jumps into the water and starts to swim to the shore.
Thogar's cold body lies there looking up to the cloudy sky, as he embarks on his last journey - to the All-Maker.
The northern winds howl more viciously now. The clouds loom overhead angrily, and somewhere in the distance Aeja tries to swim ashore.
