Lol I have the same problem whenever I see Cabal's work. I never liked glass armour set but this........ amazing work as always. Makes me wonder, should I start a light armour character?
No it wouldn't, as malachite is not transparent. From UESP wiki:"Malachite, commonly known as glass, is a rare, volcanic, milky translucent (only small amount of light can go through it) green crystal, used in creating strong but lightweight metallic Altmer armor and weapons. It is similar to ebony, but is less durable and more lightweight. It bears no relation to the common, brittle glass used in windows and ornaments, as it is far stronger and has a much higher melting point."
It strongly reminds me of moldavite (natural occuring olive-green glass) the most, which is a good thing! Perhaps it's just me, but it always baffled me as to why Bethesda wrongfully named Daggerfall's/Skyrim's glass "malachite" (an carbonate mineral) instead of "moldavite" (a true vitreous tektite).
I think it was supposed to be malachite. At least the ore and ingots look like it, in Skyrim at least. Lorewise though, pretty sure its just its own fictional material, like with ebony. Moldavite really looks close to Morrowind's and Oblivion's glass on the other hand. Both malachite and moldavite are pretty awesome looking though so in all honesty I don't really mind which ends up in my game.
Ebony in the elder scrolls is not the ebony in real life. It's an extremely hard, durable, and malleable obsidian like material. The glass material is similar in this manner as well, only much lighter. When I said fictional I meant just the glass and ebony materials we see in the elder scrolls.
Really loving how that malachite turned out. This amongst most other shields, were easily some of the most terrible textures in game for me. Now this shield can truly shine and be used the way its meant to be. I also like the detailing going on as well as the color schemes. Can't wait to try them out in game, although I'll probably pick the middle scheme first.
The first one has dark moonstone - dark aged gold metal.
The second's metal is gray or black like an unpolished steel
The third's metal has a dark color similar to the second toward the middle with gilded edges more like the first. The glass appears to be very burnt and gives off a slightly more yellowish reflection but perhaps the darker color of the shield simply gives the illusion that the reflection is different.
