Kyirael has some exotic tastes, mostly due to Zalel's influence, who would sometimes create elaborate hairdos on himself with assistance of his sorcery.

Kyirael's dreadlocks were crafted by the younger drow's own hands, bet with his uncle that it was possible to create elaborate hairdos without using sorcery. Although the result was not to Zalel's refined tastes, he still rewarded his nephew for the effort by paying him a night at the most expensive and popular tavern of Waterdeep.

He never mentioned to Zalel that Valkirya, Kenrahel and Ellenarallieva (his aunt) helped him craft the dreadlocks.
