Oh, he doesn't, he just have to squint his eyes peering into darkness. Also his eyes have blind texture, so they look kinda bleary :D
About helmet:
I think this is variant of medieval helmet Bascinet (you can click image for similiar version). And you can find it in Immersive Armors pack (I also posted link in description).
