Skyrim

Wondering how to get your hands on all Royal Armory weapons during the course of a normal playthrough? Here's a quick overview.

- Black Crow Dagger
Carried by Maven Black-Briar in Riften. You never get to kill Maven, so your best bet is trying to pickpocket the dagger.

- Dagger of Shalidor
Carried by Savos Aren at the College of Winterhold. Here you could also try to pickpocket the dagger or simply wait and play though the College quest line until Savos is killed. You can simply loot the dagger once he is dead.

- Exquisite Elven Blades
Carried by Elenwen, Ancano and Ondolemar. The "easiest" blade to obtain is the one carried by Ancano because you kill him at the end of the College quest line. The other two are pretty much impossible to get since you don't get to fight and kill Elenwen and Ondolemar.

- Foe Breaker
Carried by Galmar in Windhelm. If you side with the Empire in the civil war you will be able to kill Galmar and take the hammer during the battle for Windhelm. If you side with the Stormcloaks there will be no way for you to get Foe Breaker.

- Hammer of Light
Carried by Isran at Fort Dawnguard. You may be able to pickpocket Isran if you have the required skills. The only other way to obtain the hammer is by siding with the Volkihar and killing Isran.

- Harbinger's Axe
Locked away in Kodlak Whitemane's personal quarters. The Harbinger's Axe is locked away in a display case and the only key that can open it is carried by Kodlak Whitemane. Pickpocket the key from him or loot his body once he is killed during the Companion quest line. It's up to you.

- Judgement
Carried by General Tullius in Solitude. If you side with the Stormcloaks during the civil war quest line you will be able to kill Tullius during the battle for Solitude. If you side
with the Empire there will be no way for you to get Judgement.

- Jolhert
Locked away above the throne in the Blue Palace in Solitude. Jolhert is locked in a display case in the Blue Palace. The key is carried by Falk Firebeard. Pickpocket the key from him to get to the sword.

- Malice
Carried by Mercer Frey in Riften. You will have to kill Frey at the end of the Thieves Guild quest line. Once he's dead you can loot the weapon from his body.

- Mentor's Blade
Carried by Esbern. Since Esbern is an Essential character, your best bet is to pickpocket the sword from him if you have the skill.

- Northern Honor
Carried by Rikke in Solitude. If you side with the Stormcloaks in the civil war you will be able to kill Rikke and take her sword during the battle for Solitude. If you side with the Empire there will be no
way for you to get Northern Honor.

- Rikvard
Carried by Ulfric Stormcloak in Windhelm. If you side with the Empire in the civil war you will be able to kill Ulfric and take the axe after the battle for Windhelm. If you side with the Stormcloaks there will be no way for you to get Rikvard.

- Sword of Dragonreach
Carried by Jarl Balgruuf in Whiterun. Pickpocketing the weapon from the Jarl is your only way to obtain it, since Balgruuf is an essential npc and can't be killed.

- Yokuda's Edge
Carried by Kematu in Swindler's Den. During the quest In My Time of Need you will encounter the Kematu and the Alik'r and you'll get the choice to fight them or to take their side. If you choose to fight you can loot the weapon of Kematu's body when he's dead. If you join the Alik'r you'll have to find a way to pickpocket the weapon before the quest is over, because Kematu disappears from the game afterwards.

After earning the Misdirection perk I was able to easily pickpocket the unique weapons from Savos Aren, Ulfric Stormcloak, and Galmar. I think the notes about there being no way to get the weapons must be wrong. I suspect it'll be the same for any of the weapons that are actually carried by an NPC. The only one that's probably impossible to get is Keeper Carcette's Pendulum.

The Pendulum is very easy to get, because it is on the desk and you can steal it. You have only to Do it before you reach Level 10, because than the dawnguard quest Start and the house of keeper carcette burnt down. This was my First royal weapon i get.

than it glitched for you, because even with maxed pickpocket tree for me, it was always shown as 0% chance to steal from some of those NPCs

Once again, level 10 rears its ugly head. So I guess I'll ignore all the active quests and take a tour across Skyrim before I level up. :|

Im lvl 4, and i went to the Hall of the Vigilants, and Keeper Carcette has the Pendulum equipped. So the only way to get it is to attack and kill her(Havent tried this), before lvl 10... or can players loot the weapon efter the hall is destroyed?
I´ll try to test this and will update my findings...

Paralysis will let you steal it. Its a similar situation for a lot of the items, so I advise using some paralysis poisons early game to get the items. You can also reverse pickpocket stronger weapons into their inventory to get them. That's how I do it at least.

You can't obtain the dagger from savos aren when he dies during the college quest, since his corpse is unlootable, and as soon as you complete the quest, the corpse disappear...

At this point everyone should be using the "quick loot" mod. I was able to loot his body easily no problems, fallout 4 style.

True, it should have been added to the Archmage's quarters which you get at the end of the questline.

colossusx13 i shouldn't be forced to download a mod i have no intention of using (or even have any knowledge about if it'll even work with my load order) just to pick up a few weapons that are unobtainable otherwise when progressing quests

I forgot to loot Kodlak's corpse for the key. Where does his corpse go after his funeral?

EDIT: Never mind. I reverted to a save from prior to his death to fix the issue.

I am noticing an issue in my save, I cannot pickpocket any of the weapons, because they do not show up in their inventory unless they are dead. this is a problem for people like maven

are you using any perk overhaul? Eg Ordinator? For Ordinator alone i noticed that some items won't appear in NPCs inventory to pickpocket (wielded weapons, equipped clothes/armor) and to pickpocket worn outfits, NPCs needs to be asleep and you need the correct perk for it

Only up to a certain point, and it's not always wise to use - Dragon's Reach and the Blue Palace would be lousy places to get busted using a hostile shout on the Jarl or Steward. Even if you're thane you'd go to jail after a severe beating.
