So dark and brooding, the fine line between what's right and wrong.
Really memorable!
Rathe is UNDERSTANDABLY very upset about Sicarius. I did not know how much he confided in his trusty steed.
Interesting that Boethia kept him away from the drink. However I wonder who is the greater danger...Quin (probably) or Jade?
Can't wait!!!
the music, spot on. Really did add a lot of drama to the story.
my turn to doth cap and bow to you Jess.... superb story
Why would He/she be interested in Rathe doing a GOOD deed like saving Jade's soul??
That's very unusual, unless Boethia is either typically, deliberately testing Rathe's weaknesses and/or setting him up....^^
Favorite'd.
Warm thanks and cheers, dear!
As for why She is doing what She's doing... ah well, all in good time.
I liked the music to this set, I'm so far behind things it blows way over the top of me,Ii hope I can find time to read up more soon
Now really, I do not think that Jade can be saved, maybe she can change but her soul was damned a long time ago I think but maybe no matter how evil you are , at those last moments in life you can change and have a chance at salvation.
This chapter had a very creepy edge to it , from the moment he walked in , to sit and talk to a perfect stranger, not Rathe at all. Normally he would have a drink at the furthest table in the dark shadows alone every aware of those around him , not lost in thought spilling his guts to a Inn keeper. The death of his friend and only one he could unburden himself with was Sicarius and now he is alone, truly alone as he has not ever been. If you want to break someone, first you take all they hold dear, break them so they are lost and then you give them something to hope for thus they are thankful to you and only you. I will give Boethia credit , she has found his weak point , the need to save someone, he could not save Regan, he could not save Fleur, will he have any chance of saving Jade........ hmmm just what does Boethia gain if he does, or is it by not saving her she hopes to push him over the edgel.
Great story and awesome shots....... that Inn keeper is amazing look for this story.......
You're spot on in your analysis that Boethia has identified his weak spot and now she's out to exploit it. How? By using Jade. Why, that will come clear soon enough. Whether it will work........ nah, not telling
Thanks for your insight my dear. I so appreciate your comments!
No, no respite on the horizon for Broody at the moment. He's got to get back to the sanctuary and find out who sent that assassin after him.... and any OTHER shocks coming for him when he gets there!
In general the entire scene felt like a dream or vision with the eerie music and context of the words. I knew the Dunmer was off right away - that was easy enough to pick up on. I didn't realize it was Boethia until the end though and he said "my Champion" which is a total give away since only one person in the stories to this point has been referring to him as that.
My confusion isn't with who the Innkeeper is but the entire conversation. Jade/Selana is already dammed - she was dammned a long time ago. There is no innocence to save. Best you can hope for is a late repentence. I do not know what Boethia's goal was here unless it was to have Rathe kill her as that takes away her chance at redemption. But if Rathe thinks killing her will save her innocence ... then he is a fool. I say that as she is clearly not an innocent.
In some ways it seemed like Boethia was helping him - which is why I say I was confused by the story. He gave him water, not drink. He was honest with him about pain - as long as he kills he will live with pain. That is nothing but the truth. Boethia (gender is irrelevant on Princes overall so I say he) seemed to be offering insight and wisdom. Who knows maybe he wants Rathe to be be clean and self-aware yet accept the fact he is a killer at heart and just deal with it. Hmm maybe that is it then. Boethia is trying to make Rathe realize he is a killer and he simply needs to accept that. That and the fact there is no true innocence? That makes the conversation have a lot more sense now that I think about it.
Going with my last bit - writing it down helped me think about it. It seems to be the only reason why Boethia set this up and had this "talk" with Rathe. Get him to accept his destiny as a killer and embrace the pain and not run from it. Think the Jade stuff just threw me as she is about as far from innocence as you can get.
Intriguing story and interesting discussion between Rathe and Boethia. I notice Boethia never answered the question on the horse being an innocent. In general I think most animals are innocent (although they can be sly, clever, mischievous, and tricky). But its a very grey line to me. Where do you draw that line between animal and human? At one point do you have enough qualities to be judged "human" or in the opposite direction when does a human become more of an animal? There are some very intelligent animals (monkey family especially) and I wonder if there is a point where you can have an evil monkey that is not so innocent?
Great shots - really set the mood with the music as well!
As for whether Jade is innocent (or is redemable) she's not that dissimilar to either Regan or Fleur; all three were damaged against their will, all three tried at some stage to hurt Rathe and all three were killers. How they got to be wher they are is really all that separates them; Regan chose to adopt that evil way of life, Fleur chose to follow Rathe (into an arguably evil way of life, though when it came to the punch she couldn't be a cop blooded murderer). What Jade will choose now... remains to be seen.
Glad you enjoyed the music; it helped with the eeriness of the piece I was going for. I deliberately wanted this chapter to be a little off balance. Perhaps though it was too subtle.
I like how you described that feeling of the inn, that air seeming to weight on him, to be thick enough to cut with a blade as he moved through it, that unsettling lack of patrons, Rathe's footsteps seeming to loud, something certainly was very off though Rathe oddly seemed to ignore it. It is unusual that he would simply open up about what was troubling his to a stranger, one that knew an awful much about him. Though the words of the mysterious dunmer were wise it looks like their purpose was something more nefarious with that glee in the dunmer's crimson gaze. A very intriguing chapter with a mystery to ponder
The Inn itself was a mystery - otherworldly and strange, and perhaps not even in the mortal realm anymore. Could be that Boethia took him to Her plain for their tete a tete. But yes indeed there is definitely an underlying reason for their strange meeting and it's all about the concepts of innocence and dambation... and ultimately how She can get Her hands on Rathe's soul....
