"You don't see any levers to pull? Buttons to press? There must be a way out.... Hmmm.... Maybe.... Try putting that amulet on Julien. It must be of some importance if it's trapped you here," Tolfdir tried advised his pupil.
"We've got no other option, it's worth a try. I just hope this trinket isn't cursed," Julien reluctantly put on the mysterious amulet. As soon as the chain was around his neck the wall he pulled it from began to glow.
Tolfdir grabbed the barred gate with excitement, "There boy! Good work! Perhaps try hitting it with a destructive spell now!"
"Well I don't know any, perhaps a courage spell will work," Julien quickly readied his spell and flung it to the wall shattering it to pieces.
"Huh, didn't think that would work," Auleric said in disbelief "But a courage spell? Ha, next time leave the spells to the professionals." Before Auleric realized the gate blocking their path was open and Julien and Tolfdir were long gone investigating the freshly destroyed wall. He grumbled and rushed to follow them.
"It's quite dark down here.... I sense the presence of the awaken dead," observed the pious healer, "Everyone ready your spells!"
The trio was ambushed by blade wielding, armor clad draugr! Tolfdir was an excellent wizard but it's been many years since he had been in real danger and had to use his spells for combat, he still managed to deal impressive damage to the enemies with his fire magics. Though he wasn't much of a fighter Julien had his ways with dealing with undead, he turned them running in fear with his holy spells of light. Auleric on the other hand loved to use and show off his magical talents in battles, he took down three draugr with one fireball.
Soon enough nothing there were no threats in sight, all that remained were ashes, Julien felt sorry for the draugr but there was work to be done. Tolfdir decided to stay behind and investigate the area where the battle took place, he was confident enough in Auleric and Julien's combined skill that he instructed them to go in deeper together. "Do be careful, watch out for draugr. And don't forget to drink a potion if you need to. Oh! And Auleric, if you need healing Julien seems to have a knack for that. Oh and don't forget......" if they didn't leave they figured Tolfdir would go on and on so they hurried away. It wasn't their first time exploring dungeons as they both had seen many adventures in their time, they knew how to handle their own in these types of situations.
A few draugr here and there attempted to block the duo's path with no success. Anything that was sent their way was either turned and fled in terror or burned to ashes. Auleric suffered a few wounds but Julien took care of them, "Don't overdo it," Julien plead to Auleric, "I need you here with me, I don't think I can do this alone."
"Just a couple of scrapes, I'm fine. It'll take more than a few draugr to put out this hot flame!" the over confident mage chucked.
"Heh, right," Julien said cracking a smile, "Still, my healing skills aren't what they once were, if you get hurt too bad their might not be anything I can do."
"Oh good, there you are! I had worried I'd sent my best students to their demise," Tolfdir panted, he was out of breath, apparently he ran to catch up with them. "These Nord Barrows generally aren't that large in size, I'm sure we're nearing the treasure room," he raced ahead, such youthful excitement he had was something neither Julien or Auleric had seen from the old man.
As Tolfdir predicted they made it to what appeared to be a treasure room though the treasure before them was something none of the seasoned mages experienced before.
Before they could investigate a dead guardian stood from his thrown and shouted at the three men.
Auleric quickly charged ahead with his hands filled with fire and lightning, Julien followed close behind. Tolfdir was in awe at the mysterious sight before him but he snapped out of it seeing his students charging ahead.
"What in Oblivion?" Auleric yelled, "Nothing is working!" He was getting angry and throwing fireball after fireball each one larger than the last.
Julien charged in behind the Draugr with his mace. He leaped towards his enemy and with all his force stuck him in his head but it didn't seem to have any affect. "We may be in trouble here..." Julien looked to Toldir, "Do you have a plan?"
"Distract him boys! I may be able to drain it's power for this orb," The old mage held a strong steam of lighting energy to the orb. It was clear the draugr was weakened.
The undead warrior turned his attention to Julien who held his buckler up prepared to halt any attacks. The angry Draugr raised his sword but before he could strike his flesh began to melt away. Auleric had thrown a devastating ball of fire at the evil creature, it was powerful enough to stop it's attack. "Please forgive me," Julien plead before striking the draugr one more time in the head though this time his head was knocked clean off.
"Hahahaha, don't know he he's gonna forgive you for that one," joked the snarky mage, Auleric.
"No time for fun and games boys, we need to inform the others of this mystery! Hurry back to the college and tell the others!" Tolfdir demanded.
