Players and modders - welcome to new-born Risen modding section, that I am proud to establish.

This mod replaces the original low-resolution loading screens with new, high-resolution ( 2048x1024 pix ), professionaly made ones. If you are new to a Risen modding topic, you probably will need the Risen Mod Starter to run my mod.

    Downloading issues update

    posted by Dark0ne Site News
Following on from an update on the downloading situation made at the start of the month I want to write a quick post to say we're still working on the CDN setup I touted in the original update.

Many people are (wrongly) blaming the new download system we added to the site back in the middle of June, which worked fine up until the Steam sales made everything go a bit crazy. To enable us to fully discount this update as a factor for those of you who are getting slow downloads and downloading issues we've re-enabled the old file server selection download method which we'll likely keep up and runni ...(continue reading the full article)

Virus scan reports now visible on file pages, more security incoming

    posted by Dark0ne Site News
After recent events by a malicious user to upload viruses to the Nexus sites and gain access to Nexus accounts (for reasons completely unknown to us as your accounts are worth very little in tangible terms!) we've been stepping up our public-facing security options.

Thanks to the great support of VirusTotal, who have given us very generous access to their virus API for free, we've been able to integrate their virus scanning functionality into the Nexus file pages. VirusTotal is an online tool that will scan files you send it using over 50 of the most used anti-virus programs and generates a rep ...(continue reading the full article)

Steam sale and downloading issues prompts CDN expansion

    posted by Dark0ne Site News
Over the past 10 days we've had widespread reports of downloading issues on the sites that has gone hand-in-hand with the annual Steam summer sale promotion that sees games getting massively discounted on Valve's gaming platform. These downloading issues were caused, simply put, by the fact every single one of our 20 download servers was filled to capacity with people trying to download.

If our registration statistics are anything to go by this year's summer sale was the most successful one yet for Steam. Over the past ten days we've averaged 8,200 new registrations a day including a new Nexus ...(continue reading the full article)

Site updates: stability, premium donations, endorsements, downloading, apost...

    posted by Dark0ne Site News
It's been a while since I last wrote about the updates we've made on the sites, of which there have been quite a few, just some have been quite subtle. For my part I've been extremely busy over the past few months (here, have a picture of my feet dangling over the edge of the grand canyon) in between trips to the US and moving home. Thankfully the Nexus to-do list is neverending so the other staff have had more than enough to keep themselves busy. As there's so much I'll just break it down into more manageable sections.

Have you noticed? The sites seem to be up a lot more than they use ...(continue reading the full article)

Another note on site security, your security, and a malware email doing the ...

    posted by Dark0ne Site News
Recently we've been the target of some attacks on the site that date back to March of this year. To begin with a user was uploading a virus to the sites masquerading as other popular files. The virus was being used to gain infected user's stored usernames and passwords for the site which were then being used to login to their Nexus accounts here and continue to upload more viruses. That stopped. Now recently we had a high profile breach of one of our staff accounts that allowed a user to replace some popular files here with viruses masquerading as the popular files which is obviously more seri ...(continue reading the full article)

Introducing the new Video Share section

    posted by Dark0ne Site News
Today we have launched our new Video Share functionality across the Nexus sites. The concept of the Video Share section is much like the Image Share section; it's an area where you can showcase the videos that you have made that relate to the games we support in some way. Interviews with modders, reviews of mods you like, story-driven machinima and so on and so forth. It's something we've had on our to-do list for two and a half years now so I'm pleased to finally get this out the door.

First and perhaps most importantly, the Video Share section will only work with YouTube videos. We made a con ...(continue reading the full article)

Starbound and State of Decay support in the latest NMM update

    posted by Dark0ne Game News
We've released version 0.49.0 of NMM today which includes support for both Starbound and State of Decay. Both are compliments of modders within the community, KrazyTheFox for Starbound and MrxknownJG for State of Decay. Their help in getting support for these games in to NMM has enabled our dedicated NMM programmers to carry on with other projects in NMM (profiling, mainly) so they have my thanks.

    Here's the full change log:
    • New Feature: Added support for State of Decay.
    • New Feature: Added support for Starbound.
    • New Feature: Improved the “The Elder Scrolls Online” game detection.

Elder Scrolls Online Nexus with NMM support plus NMM update that includes mo...

    posted by Dark0ne Site News
The latest Elder Scrolls Online beta weekend kicks off today from 12pm EST (well, in fact, it's working already for me, which probably means it's live right now!), and what better way to see it in than with the official launch of our Elder Scrolls Online Nexus site, complete with Nexus Mod Manager support for the game.

Though ESO is an MMORPG that doesn't support the typical type of open modding we've seen in previous Elder Scrolls games (for obvious reasons, it's an MMO), it does have a very open addon platform for the UI, and many mods have already been released while the game is in beta. I'v ...(continue reading the full article)

Downtime today - it wasn't us!

    posted by Dark0ne Site News
Just a quick heads up to let you know that we are aware that the sites were down for two hours today between the hours of 10am and 12pm GMT. For once, it wasn't us!

This problem rose above our server provider and above the data centre in which our servers are hosted to a huge internet hub in the UK at Telehouse London. Telehouse London is the main hub of the UK, so if something goes wrong there, it trickles down to everything that connects to it.

As you're reading this now things should, fingers crossed, be back to normal again. If this occurs in the future, and I'm actually online and aware of ...(continue reading the full article)

Integrated support and separation for other language and "translation mo...

    posted by Dark0ne Game News
Files that are written in languages other than English and "translation" mods (authors who have translated an English mod in to another language) have always caused a bit of a pickle for users on the Nexus due to the fact they're mixed in with all the other mods in one big soup. If you're an English-only speaker it can be a bit of a pain having to navigate past numerous mods written in different languages, or indeed multiple different translations for the same mod. Similarly if you're looking for a translation of a popular mod in your language that, too, can be difficult and inefficient. Some ...(continue reading the full article)
