Following in the footsteps of Sevrick's mods for Fallout 3, New Vegas, and 4, the Pillars of Eternity Language filter attempts to remove harsh/profane language from the game while still keeping the spirit and original intent of the speaker intact. This mod currently only supports the english version of the game, and does not include edits to the White March expansion packs (I don't have them yet).

One of the things that got me into modding in the first place was the idea that your experience with a game can be completely unique to anyone else's. You can experience the game in a way that fits your own personal tastes and interests. You might choose to expand the game, or streamline it for a more specific purpose. You might make cosmetic changes, rebalances, or complete overhauls to the original game. With these ideas in mind, I set out to create a mod for those who desire to play pillars of eternity without the profanity that occasionally appears in the text and voice-overs. This mod is a work in progress, and will be updated from time to time.

There are plenty of reasons that someone would want to remove profanity from their game, and I hope that in creating this mod, I might cater to a few of those needs, if not all.In terms of voice acting, there will be no censor bleeps or overdubs. I will simply edit the audio files to best fit the edit to the text, or, that failing, I will simply mute the audio associated with the dialogue. What I loved about Sevrick's mods is that you could immerse yourself in the game and not notice the lack of foul language because of how well the edits were done.

If you want to contribute an edit that needs to be made, please do so on the discussion board provided. My current priorities are editing the f-words of the game, but more comprehensive edits will be coming with future updates.

Installation/Uninstallation

Those playing the "Definitive Version" or who otherwise have the expansions installed, use version 1.0. If you are only playing the base game, use version 0.5.

To install the Pillars of Eternity Language filter, download the mod and place the provided PillarsOfEternity_Data folder in your main game folder (i.e .../steam/steamapps/common/Pillars of Eternity). The fastest way I can think of to uninstall the mod is to erase the following folders and then validate the installation of the game to retrieve the original voice and text files.

-.../common/Pillars of Eternity/PillarsOfEternity_Data/data/localized/en/text/conversations
-.../common/Pillars of Eternity/PillarsOfEternity_Data/data/localized/en/text/game
-.../common/Pillars of Eternity/PillarsOfEternity_Data/data/audio/vocalization/vo wav files

Special Thanks to:
-Obsidian Entertainment, for creating Pillars of Eternity
-Sevrick, for showing me that mods like this could be done and could be done well.
-Nexus mods, for giving me a platform to share this on.
-The creators of Audacity and Notepad, the tools I used to make these edits.

I understand that this mod will be offensive to people who see these sorts of mods as a watering-down of the game. To those who would be offended, may I offer this pearl of modding wisdom: If you don't want my mod in your game, don't install it.
