Oblivion's 5th anniversary and a Bethesda podcast
Since that time The Elder Scrolls Nexus has amassed 22690 files for Morrowind and Oblivion.
Have a favourite Oblivion memory? Whether it's from before you knew about mods, the first mod you loaded, or the countless hours spent trying to set the mods up so that your game didn't crash every ten minutes, share them with us in the comments section.
Bethesda has also released a podcast talking about Oblivion's development so if you want to find out who to send coal to for Christmas for the level scaling system you might want to check it out.

Another memory is when i got my new rig, the one im using now. I installed oblivion and got some graphical mods. Pretty sweet. I even got that one mountain shack.. i believe it was by Vince Bly. Nice.
Such history, this site. i hope it continues to thrive and grow to astronomical proportions.
My most recent memory is the day I discovered the advice about turning off the background music in the Oblivion Tweak Guide. My game, previously always plagued by CTDs as I struggled to figure out which of my bazillion mods was "causing" the problem, suddenly achieved new and heretofore unimagined levels of stability. If you too are experiencing frequent CTDs, hit the oblivion.ini, shut off the background music, and go on making new Oblivion memories in a much less crashy game.
I'm still making new Oblivion memories, and can't wait to start making Skyrim memories.
Even now, a year and a half later, I visit this site weekly, just to keep me updated.
Lol one day i spent 4 hours trying to find the mod conflict that prevented my oblivion from launching just to find that I didn't read instructions and had activated 2 environment changes at once Oops, Idk what they were it was on my old PC I loved and still love this game
I really like immersive gameplay, so I completely removed the compass from the HUD, no fast travel and no player marker on the map (+ darker nights & dungeons). I like it this way, because now your really have to THINK, where you are and where are you going. You can get lost in a minute. And also only now you can see how really BIG is the Oblivion gameworld.
One of my favorite memories is a recent one with my last character. I was doing the Nirnroot quest, so I needed to travel to that lake north or Skingrad which is rich in nirnroot. It was about 1pm ingame (I use timescale 15) so I thought I've got just enough time to go there and back before nightfall (remember, no compass, no player marker on map, FCOM and darker nights). So I decided to go directly NNE from Skingrad. I don't need to say I was at least 10 times at that lake. My character was around level 5, which is really weak by FCOM standards. So usually I go to the forest in sneak mode. The weather was sunny (using Natural Weather) and I saw the towers of Skingrad behind me. So I'm traveling and suddenly I was attacked by a group of bandits (a ringleader and his companions). I managed to kill them by escaping/sniping/jumping on rocks, hiding and other not so honourable tactics. In the meantime the rain started falling. I realized I didn't had the slightest idea where am I. Forest everywhere. Darkness falling. So not to waste time, I've chosen a direction most compelling to me and started trekking. I've found some ruin and saw on the map that my travel direction is completely wrong. I've changed course accordingly, when darkness came (using darker nights). It isn't wise to use a torch in the forest at night, especially if you're around level 5. So I continued travelling in the dark. I found some strangely ruined building, which I didn't dare to enter because of some nasty name (something like Melhorken Lair or whatever). I was sure I modded it into the game but didn't have the slightest idea by which mod (actually I could look at it with RefScope, but resisted the urge). So I continued my travels in sneak mode. At some time the sky started to lighten up and just when the sun started to rise, I've found my way out of the woods near Weye (west from the Imperial City). That was a relief, even if I dumped the whole Nirnroot quest.
You can call this way of playing masochistic, but I never had this much a good time with a game.
EDIT: on my way to Chorrol I finish the Rumare Slaughterfish quest, because of the useful reward.
My favorite moment occured after just starting the game. I had finished the tutorial dungeon and was astounded by the games level of detail. I only had the red assassin robe and a little change, so I went to an inn and stayed the night. I wandered around the upper rooms and could not believe I could take any of the items off of the shelves, since in all games I had played before this the items were locked on to background. It was addicting to steal silverware, even though I didn't know that it was next to worthless. Needless to say, a guard suddenly apppeared and threw me in jail.^^ But I got into the thieves guild, which was the best guild imo next to the Dark Brotherhood.
I beat the game and did two things. First, I immediately looked for sites for mods, finally stumbling here after talking to my gaming friends and looking up youtube videos. The second thing was that I called ahead and picked up Morrowind for the pc(obviously)about nine years late...I haven't had time to finish it yet-_-. The GOTY edition of Oblivion with all the dlc content has about 6 gigs of stuff all together. Right now, I have about 10 gigs in mods alone on the game, and many more in my mods file that I can't use because they tax my computer too heavily(thank you texture mods and Better Cities!!!).All of this from a lame hp laptop with 2 gigs of ram and 2.0gigs of processing power o.0! Toggle Light Bright is a saving grace! I plan on getting a newer destop around the time Skyrim comes out and then I will replay this game with the quality it deserves.
Favorite mods: Guenhwyvar's panther figurine and the Underdark Project
My second favorite memory would probably have to be the first time I laid eyes on the adoring fan... and all the good memories that immediately followed. =D
Other than that, I remember the day I got my (first - stupid red ring) Xbox 360 along with Oblivion. Was so excited, I got home and set it all up and played through the tutorial dungeon and then immediately went to the arena. It was glorious. The next day, I woke up and went straight for the Xbox... but it red ringed. Spent the next 2 weeks memorizing the Oblivion guide, lol.
PC for the win.
