No Refraction Spells V1.0

This is a set of six meshes (.nif) for six magic effects that in the standard game contain refraction textures. These six meshes remove the refraction texture which should significantly speed up the display of the magic effect when casting certain spells and may help to stop some game crashes related to the refraction shader. Only 6 magic effects contain the refraction textures in the standard game. This modification removes only the refraction textures and retains all other effects with the result that the magic effect should look just the same as in a standard game. This modification will increase performance and reduce stutter on both NVidia and ATI video cards. In addition some ATI cards which may have trouble with the refraction shader will certainly benefit and may entirely prevent crashes related to using these particular spells.

This is not a MOD, there is no .esp file to be installed and I know of no conflict with any other MOD. The 'Spell Stripper' mod disables most magic effects and so may disable these as well.

(NOTE: These 6 files are not textures - they are meshes.)

To install just unzip this archive into your Oblivion folder (the one with Oblivion.exe in it). The unzip program needs to be set to recreate the folder names - the archive contains the proper folder names. Or extract it anywhere and drag the 'magiceffects' folder into the 'Oblivion/data/meshes' folder. When you have put the files in the correct place you'll have 6 .nif files in the 'data/meshes/magiceffects' folder. If for some reason you can't recreate the folder structure, the six .nif files belong in the 'Oblivion/data/meshes/magiceffects' folder - you can create this folder manually if necessary.

The following spell effects have an edited .nif in this release:
BindMythicDawn - used by MythicDawn members to summon armor
Drain
Reanimate - used by Staff of Worms
SoulTrap
SummonDaedra
TurnUndead

Note that I have not provided a complete list of which spells use these magic effects. The TESCS can be used to obtain this information.

There are six meshes included in this archive:
data/meshes/magiceffects/bindmythicdawn.nif
data/meshes/magiceffects/drain.nif
data/meshes/magiceffects/reanimate.nif
data/meshes/magiceffects/soultrap.nif
data/meshes/magiceffects/summondaedra.nif
data/meshes/magiceffects/turnundead.nif

To uninstall just delete the 6 files in the '/data/meshes/magiceffects' folder.
