UPDATE: Players can now spawn mobs in-game plus a challenge for high level players. Harold the Uber Mud Crab is NOT leveled but he is beatable. To paraphrase David Letterman: Ladies and gentlemen, this is a brutal fight to the death between massive and horrific monsters...please, no wagering (yet).

DISCLAIMER: This plug-in is distributed as-is. It is mainly intended as a "sandbox" for experimentation and entertainment. Although the Construction Set (CS) is no longer essential, I strongly recommend you use it to make the most of this plug-in. This plug-in may be CPU/GPU intensive if you add a lot of participants. Although I have programming experience, the script code was assembled in three days with no prior knowledge of Oblivion (or Morrowind) scripting. Please excuse any sloppy coding. If you intend to use this in your own mod or incorporate its concept and you were inspired by it, please acknowledge me in your "readme" (TIA).

HISTORY: A friend and I were discussing the combat capabilities of various mobs (NPCs and creatures) in Oblivion. By looking at the raw numbers of their attributes (through the CS), we could tell who was strongest or fastest but we couldn't tell who would win in a fight. I built a "versus" pit to test this out. I then connected three more pits to allow entire factions to to slug it out. Some kind comments online inspired me to learn Oblivion scripting and write some spawning code. I also threw in a pit to challenge high level players.

INSTALLATION: Just place the .esp file in your data directory and make sure it is checked off on the data section of the Oblivion load screen. Remove (or uncheck) any previous versions.

USAGE: The entrance to the Pit O' Death is in the Imperial City Arena district. It is a sewer entrance near the platform north of the arena (NOT the platform with the two sparring NPCs). I advise you to make a save before entering. Just inside is a book that provides some back story and a table just past it with "Spectator's Robes". These are uber robes with 100+ chameleon so that you can watch the combat without the pit fighters trying to engage you. If you are a low level character, please do not use the robe in your game quests as it will seriously unbalance and spoil your play (conversely, if you have no scruples about balanced game play or want to experiment, feel free to use it as you like).

The pit to the left is home to Harold the Uber Mud Crab. He is VERY difficult to kill. If you accept the challenge, you will not be able to leave the pit until he is dead. You MUST be a high level player (or gross cheater) to have a chance against him. Save your game before entering the pit if you just want to check him out.

This plug-in is mainly intended for use with the Oblivion CS but it is no longer essential. If you want to change the participants in the pit, the interior cell is called "ZZZPitODeath".I advise you to keep a backup of the original plug-in if you intend to make changes.

KNOWN ISSUES: Spells or arrows hitting the summoning scrolls will knock them off the wall. Exit the pits, save, and uninstall/reinstall the plug-in to correct this problem. This will also respawn Harold if you have killed him.

CAUTION: If you intend to modify the stats of mobs for experimental (or entertainment) purposes (i.e., uber mud crab vs. My Hero), please make a duplicate of the mob you wish to change. Changing the default mob will affect all mobs of its type in the game. If you do not know how to do this, please do not attempt to make changes. I accept no responsibility for saved games ruined by random tampering within the CS. You may be able to recover a saved game damaged by such tampering by uninstalling the plug-in however, there are no guarantees that this will work. Use the CS at your own risk!

NOTES: You can stir things up by casting a targeted spell at a dormant mob then running to the vicinity of a rival faction. If you are visible to the pit fighters, sometimes they will "jump" up to the observation area to attack you. If you know how to use the CS, you can add walls to seal off pits from each other. Feel free to test your mettle by jumping into the pit during a fight. There is a ladder in the main pit so you can get out. Feel free to make design changes to the pits to suit your needs. I have a personal version of this plug-in with holding cells to temporarily store mobs for easy access. I have not included this version because of possible framerate issues.

Thanks to Mystery on the Official TES forums and supergothmailboxstalker and Cooperdale on tessource.net for the kind words and inspiration. Big thanks to contributers to the CS wiki and members of the CS section of the official forums. The scripts in this plug-in would not have been possible without their contributions. Finally, thanks to Bethesda for making all this possible.
