What it is:

The Obliuio Latina project seeks to translate the entire game world of Oblivion by Bethesda Softworks into Classical Latin. There are a few stages to the project, which is quite the massive undertaking. The first stage is the translation of all subtitled dialogue into Latin.

Version 1.0 will be the full translation of the Main Quest, Mages' Guild, Fighter's Guild and Thieves Guild quest lines.

What's new in this version:

Version 0.1 translates all 'CharacterGen' quest topics into Latin. This is essentially what you will read in dialogue in the tutorial dungeon.

Changes:

- Added Latin script for Uriel Septim
- Added Latin script for Baurus
- Added Latin script for player dialogue
- Translated into Latin key Oblivion concepts (Dragon's Blood, Amulet of Kings etc.)
- Translated into Latin several proper nouns (Weynon Priory, Chorrol etc.)

Installation:

Simply unzip the files into your Oblivion/Data directory. Tick 'Latin.esp' in your list of data files, and you're good to go. If you are using Oblivion Mod Manager, simply activate the .omod version in OBMM.

Conflicts:
----------

The mod only changes dialogue text, not the actual mechnaics of dialogue. Thus, the mod will conflict with any other mod that adds or alters the written dialogue of vanilla Oblivion.

Technical:
----------

I am trained in Classical Latin. If you are familiar with Medieval or Ecclesiastical Latin, you may find some constructions and spelling unusual or unfamiliar. I do not use the character 'v' to denote consonental 'u' (as in 'uerba'), except when capitalised (as in Vrbe). Likewise, I do not use the character 'j' to denote consonental 'i' (as in 'iam').

Much of these quests involved instruction and command with strong overtones of obligation and requirement. Thus, where I felt it appropriate, I have used the gerund/ive + esse, or 'debere' + infinitive. Occasionally I have made use of the jussive subjunctive.

I have also had to make up declensions for some proper names. For example, Tamriel becomes Tamriellus, Uriel Septim becomes Urielus Septimus, Glenroy becomes Glenrus, and, most tongue-twistedly, Weynon Priory becomes Monacharia Venonensis. If you wish to suggest a better Latinate form for a proper name, please PM me (Jesse Boyd) on the official forums or post in the RELz thread.

Finally, if you notice anything peculiar or poorly translated, please let me know and I will update accordingly.
