WHAT IS IT?

This is a sort of poison apple alternative, a way for you to kill people without getting blamed. See, the Hell Hat itself is not meant to be worn by you because it's enchanted with spells that instantly kill the wearer.

You use Hell Hats by pickpocketing your victims, and giving them the hat. If you weren't away, you can give people things that are of zero weight, and you really don't get caught that often. Take their helmet or hat if they already have one. Actually, that's not necessary because victims often just choose to wear the Hell Hat instead of their crappy normal helms.

Usually when they wake up, and sometimes also at other times (such as when attacked), they get dressed and equip the best items in their inventory... including their new Hell Hat, and it instantly kills them. You get no bounty and are not blamed for the murder, of course.

In the off-chance that the hat doesn't kill instantly, the victim will be paralyzed for 30 seconds.

However, if your target is a vital character, they will repeatedly go unconscious and wake up for a second before going unconscious again. So don't target vital characters.

If you do, and then stupidly save the game, you should unselect the mod from the launcher, start the game, do a separate save, enable the mod again, and start the game.

Also, don't leave these lying around. I believe that thieving NPCs will take them and wear them and then you've got people dying you never intended to kill.

WHERE TO GET THEM

Buy it from your first Dark Brotherhood merchant, who also sells poison apples. His name is M'raaj-Dar and he's in Cheydinhall in the Dark Brotherhood house.

Also, because some people choose not to be part of the Dark Brotherhood, Olfand at the Nord Winds in Bruma also sells them.
