Some items in the game are scaled to your level and are among the best items in the game... but only if you do the quest at a high level. Otherwise, you get stuck with a scaled-down version and lose out on ever getting its highest form.

For example, if you were to get an item with level 1, 5, 10, and 15 versions at level 4, you would get the weakest (level 1) version. Normally you are stuck with that. The higher versions of the reward are lost forever. The only way to get the highest level item is to get it (do the quest, etc.) when your level equals or exceeds its highest level.

This plug-in will change any leveled item you already have, or later acquire to match your character's level. Now you aren't punished for doing a quest too soon.

For example, the Escutcheon of Chorrol shield. It has level 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 versions. If you do that quest at level 10 thru 14, you would normally miss out on the level 15, 20, 25 versions. This plug-in means that when you reach level 15-19 (if the item is in your inventory) it is upgraded to the level 15 version. Same at levels 20-24 and 25+. You don't miss out on the higher-level versions.

You don't have to have the item with you at the time you level up. If you don't, it will be upgraded the next time you pick it up (note that there may be a small delay before the updating script acts).

The only known issue with using this plug-in is that it makes removing the leveled spells from your spell list with the console (or otherwise) impossible, as the spell is immediately added again. This only affects leveled spells from quests that this plug-in works on, not weapons, apparel, or anything else. This does not mean you will be stuck with the lower-level versions of the spells as well when the spell upgrades as those are removed.

++ Finger of the Mountain change #1. the "no FOM.esp" is no longer required. I've moved its upgrading to a separate quest/script so that it can be stopped without the need for a separate .esp file by using the console:

StopQuest QuestAwardLevelingFM - if it upgrades to a version that can't be cast stop its script with this and use the instructions below to downgrade it.

StartQuest QuestAwardLevelingFM - use this to allow it to upgrade again, or use the instructions below to manually upgrade it.


++ Finger of the Mountain change #2. The magica requirements for this spell must be a mistake.
Due to the things one must go through to get the spell it makes no sense that it would cost 130%-220% more magica to cast and a higher skill than if a spell with identical stats was made at the Arcane University. In addition, the other leveled spell (Wizard's Fury) costs 43%-47% less magica to cast and has a lower skill requirement than a player made spell with those stats.

This mod changes Finger so that it's magica cost is 75% of the auto-calc value (3/4 what it would cost if a player made the spell) and the skill required to cast it progresses evenly (Novice for the level 1, Master for the level 20 and 25). This makes it the more like the "powerful" spell the game lore makes it out to be.

This is because the high level versions of the original Finger of the Mountain spell are incredibly hard to cast due to their original magica cost, even with 100 in Destruction. If the new spell is still beyond your ability to cast (either due to using a previous version of this mod, or it levels too high later on) you can downgrade it after stopping its upgrade script by entering in the console:

player.removespell id#
player.addspell id#

The id# for the spell you remove is the id# for the version you currently have. The id# for the spell you add is the id# for the version you want.
The list of id#'s for different versions of the spell are:

Level 1 Version: 000C48A2
Level 5 Version: 000C48A3
Level 10 Version: 000C48A4
Level 15 Version: 000C48A5

I recommend going down in steps until you reach a version of the spell you can cast.

Added "{L}" to the in-game names for items that have an upgrade (the final/last version of an object does not have the "{L}"). Reworked scripts for slightly lower CPU load (see script comments using the TESCS).

++ Finger of the Mountain change #3. (Thanks to Fre Merzasphor for this.) It is possible to complete the quest the script was checking for without acquiring the spell, so the script would award and upgrade the spell when it wasn't earned. Corrected and now it checks to see if the quest stage that indicates the spell was awarded has been completed.

** Added Mankar Camoran's Robe to leveling scripts.

*** Level upgrades for Mind and Body Ring changed based on leveled item list that awards it and fixed error in original leveled list (version '30' was given at player level 10, version '20' was given at player level 20. In other words, the last two version were incorrectly reversed. Most likely due to Bethesda breaking with their convention of having the Editor ID match the level awarded.)

**** Level upgrades for Shield Ring changed based on leveled item list that awards it and fixed error in original leveled list (the list was awarding EnchRingShieldCopper, EnchRingShieldCopperPearl, EnchRingShieldCopperTopaz but the Quest NPC, Aryarie, had FGD04ShieldRing10 in her inventory. Yet the quest dialog item that gives the reward was removing the non-existent level list item from the NPC and awarding an item from that level list to the player.

The original FGD04ShieldRing10, FGD04ShieldRing20, FGD04ShieldRing30 were all the same and not even enchanted, nor were they ever awarded to the player. They have been changed to have the same properties as the generic EnchRingShieldCopperx counterparts that were originally in the level list so that it will upgrade per player level. The items in the level list have been changed from the generics to the versions of the Shield Ring.

The catch is if this mod is added after a player has done this quest it won't upgrade because they never got "Shield Ring" they got the generic "Base Ring of Aegis", "Ring of Aegis", or "Grand Ring of Aegis".

The fix is to use the console as with Finger of the Mountain. Once any of the Shield Rings are added they will upgrade like the other items this mod handles:

***** Level List originally awarded the level 15 version of Weatherward Circlet at level 10 and level 15. Corrected so that the level 10 version is awarded at level 10.

+++ Hatred's Heart and Hatred's Soul, added the apostrophe in the name and set it to Ignore Normal Weapon Resistance as they are Daedric and all other Daedric weapons have this property.

++++ Mage's Staff of Telekinesis, the level 1 version was using the level 5 enchantment. Corrected to use the level 1 enchantment.

+++++ Added Mankar Camoran's Staff to leveling scripts. The Enchantment on all versions of the staff was set for the level 1 version but matching upgraded enchantments existed. Changed all upgrades to use their respective enchantment version.
